I am used to being able to pick up my dog, if needed. So, I am looking for a dog 20lbs or less, definitely not more than 25lb. I would like a dog with no pre-existing health conditions and is potty trained. Our previous corgis were not barkers, but I have met some who are. Incessant barking I do not want.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Me. I am a 62-year-old single person. I live on Park Point, a 4-mile beach, in Duluth, MN. I own my own house and have a fully fenced in backyard. I recently lost Victoria, my 9-year-old long-haired chihuahua, to congestive heart failure. Growing up, my parents and I raised two Pembroke Welsh corgis. They were from the Sandyshire kennel in Michigan.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We were lucky to have had two amazing corgis. They were noble and very loyal. They were friendly and very loving. They were very intelligent and lots of fun. There was something magical about them. They had temperament of a big dog in a small body.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Take long walks on the beach and Lake walk. Take car trips to my summer cottage Play fetch with balls and toys Be able to massage and brush both teeth and coat I have a small agility course, if the dog is interested. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I calmly, in a low tone, say "NO". Then I redirect their attention. I have also used coins in a soda can. When shaken, the noise gets the dog's attention which makes it easier then to redirect them.
Discipline: |
Redirecting the Pembroke's attention to a suitable behavior or activity is best, as previously mention. To calm a dog, ignoring it works for me. I have been fortunate to own dogs with very few behavioral problems.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With me, in the house, on walks, in the car, at my cottage.

House dog | ||||||

Yes, I am retired. | ||||||
Where would dog eat? |
The adopted corgi would eat in the kitchen with her own food bowl.
Where would dog sleep: |
When the Pembroke first arrived, they would sleep in their kennel beside my bed. Later they would sleep in their own bed next to mine. Our previous corgis did not wish to sleep on the bed it was too warm for them.
Play & exercise: |
Lots or beach and Lake walk walks. Playing fetch with toys and balls inside and out. And, if they are interested, running my agility course. I would say around two hours a day would be the average.
