Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Our family! We have one teenager (Natalie, 17) still living at home. We have a senior dog and a senior cat, as well. We recently lost a second dog to liver cancer and want to adopt. We have a lot of love to give a new dog!
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have done research on the breed and we just love Corgi's. My daughter and I have wanted a corgi for years.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Dog park, playing with balls and toys, walks, take it swimming (if it likes to swim), pamper it and love it forever!
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
Would never, ever hit a dog. Use stern voice only — say 'no' but only if in close proximity to the 'mistake'. Otherwise they don't know what you're talking about.
Discipline: |
See above. Dogs are my babies. 🙂
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In the house. We have a fenced yard for play time too, but we don't ever leave the dogs outside. We would consider crate training, if the dog likes being in the crate. If the dog dislikes the crate and is well-behaved, we won't need to do that.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Andrew works short days (usually home by 3:00) and is off on Mondays. Natalie gets out of school by 3:45. Patti leaves home around 9:00 a.m. So, dog would be home (with the other animals) between about 9 and 3 from Tuesday to Friday.
Where would dog eat? |
In the kitchen, next to his brother.
Where would dog sleep: |
In a dog bed in the master bedroom or in Natalie's room, or possibly on the bed. (Running debate between husband and me. I like dogs on the bed — he doesn't.)
Play & exercise: |
We have a fenced yard. We live 2 miles from a great dog park. We live near several lakes too, if the dog likes to swim. We also have a great facility called Ruffin It Resort, for doggie day care and/or boarding as needed. See www.ruffinitresort.com
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

|||||||
Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi? |
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
May we do a home visit? |
Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.
Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care? |
All of us, but Patti will probably be the pack leader
Willing to train children? |
Yes, she's had dogs since she was two years old.
Any allergies? |
No one is allergic. | ||||||
Current pets: |
|||||||
Current pets dog friendly? |
Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.
Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
Yes. We don't anticipate adopting another cat once Gulliver passes away. He currently has kidney issues, and probably won't be alive for that much longer. He's comfortable for now. My husband is a bit allergic to the cat, and so are family members who come to visit but cannot stay in the house due to the cat. We do like having two dogs, so once Dookie passes away (he's currently about 17 years old but healthy), we will get a second dog.
Lifetime commitment to Pembroke? |
Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.
Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke? |
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.
Understand no guarantees? |
Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.
Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet? |
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
