| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
Myself and my husband. | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My biggest reason for wanting to adopt a corgi is because the experiences that I have had with the breed in the past have all been very wonderful and memorable. Each dog I came into contact with over the years has been nothing but loving and very active and playful. My mother is a border collie trainer and breeder and I have been around them my entire life. I wanted a smaller breed but also a breed with lots of character. I realize that the breed may come with some health risks but I believe that every breed has them and I am more than willing to deal with them as they come because my dogs have always been one of the family. We live on a farm where I believe a Corgi would be extremely happy because of all the land that they would get to run on and because of the animals that we have that they could have contact with if the character of the dog allowed. I have been around hurting dogs my whole life so a corgi wanting to herd would be nothing new, and also encouraged!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Like I mentioned above we have quite a bit of land that I would love to take our Corgi out on a walk on . My husband currently spoils our border collie that we have now and I can only imagine that our Corgi would be spoiled probably twice as much. There would be plenty of playtime between myself and my parents that live next door with the other Border Collies. Even if our Corgi did not want to be in contact with other dogs my mom is home all day and would love to be with the dog when we aren't home. I would especially love if our Corgi would want to go on rides with us and I would be more than happy to take my Corgi on the road!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
It really depends on the situation. I try to verbally discipline at all cost and use body language so the dog can easily understand the difference in my demeanor. They can't understand what I'm saying but they can learn how I'm saying it and interpret my emotion to understand if they have done something wrong. I quickly correct the situation as much as possible to show them what should be done. I do not believe that physically disciplining is ever the answer because it is sometimes too difficult to correct a situation if they don't understand why.
Discipline: |
Verbal, encouragement by using a reward system to show them what to do rather than the alternative. My mother is a professional dog trainer and has a lot of experience in this area, whenever I have a question I go directly to her.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |

Where would dog eat? |
With us! My current dog has food bowls in many rooms of the house depending on where he wants to be with us.
Where would dog sleep: |
In our house with us! We would build her a bed!
Play & exercise: |
We will get her lots of toys to play with and when we come home from work or school we would play with her outside as much as possible. I'd also love to play with her inside and we have a huge house that she can run around in with me! I realize that corgis can sometimes be susceptible to hip dysplasia so depending on the Corgi we would get would depend on how often I would take her outside and what our activities would be. It would basically depend on what is best for her but I would give her as much activity as she is willing to handle!
