Who is this dog for?

Our family recently lost our 13 year old P.W. corgi at the beginning of the month. I got him when he was 9 months old, and I have since married and had two kids, who are now 10 and a 6.5 year old. We all fell in love with the breed and there is a big hole in our hearts now that Noodle is gone. I've been looking at local shelters, but they say they don't receive many corgis that often. I've given consideration for other breeds, but there is so much I love about a corgi, I'm just not ready to try another breed yet. We love their playful personality and their intelligence. Noodle was always at our side and ready to go anywhere. You can always tell that corgis are thinking something, and we have been enjoying the Disapproving Corgi Facebook page. Please help us find a new friend that is good with kids. We do not have any other pets.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
See response on page 1. We used to think that all of the things we loved about Noodle were just who he was. When we found the Disapproving Corgi Facebook page, we found out that a lot of his special characteristics, were common among the breed. We loved when Noodle would fall asleep with his ears relaxed (my son would call this "pancake") and he would bite/suck on his bed. We loved that Noodle would help us open presents. We loved that when Noodle would fall asleep, sometimes his tongue would stick out as though he was suckling. I loved that he would follow me everywhere in the house. I loved that he would sneak under our bed to lay, even though he had to get as flat as he could to squeeze under there. We loved that he would swim with us in the lake. We loved that we always had someone ready to play squeaky ball with and take for a walk. Noodle didn't lick a lot, but when he wanted you to know he loved you, he would give one or two licks and be done. He was very specific as to who would get a lick where. For me, he would lick my foot to say hello. For my husband and kids, he would whine until they would bend down, so he could lick their nose. Just once. We also love their stumpers, splooting, booping, and all the other wonderful phrases that go along with corgis. Corgis are just such a large personality for a small dog. We can't get enough!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Play squeaky ball. Go for a walk. He would love to lay in the sun or snow or on our electric blanket. He would go with us on rides. Every summer, since I work at a school, my family and I go to Michigan to stay with my parents and they live on a lake. We would take him swimming or just to sniff along the edge. He would lay by us on the boat to go fishing. He was our best friend.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I've had dogs my whole life. I know that in order to properly train a dog, you need to catch them in the act of doing something wrong. I speak in a disappointed voice and say no. If need I take the collar and lead the dog away from what they are doing if they don't stop.

Discipline:
See above. I also know that with enough play and exercise, dogs don't usually look for trouble. With Noodle, we didn't have much to discipline him on. He didn't tear things up, or chew on things he wasn't supposed to. He tried digging a little bit but we caught him when he tried, told him no, and he caught on fast.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Myself and my children. My husband works during the week, long hours, but then is home on the weekend.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No. I work from 8:30-4 which is when we are gone.

Where would dog eat?
In our kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Wherever he/she wanted. Noodle didn't like to be on top of the bed, but he was either under the bed, next to us on his own bed mat, or in the closet on the shoes. When we were awake, he would either sleep on his downstairs bed, the couch or the floor next to us.

Play & exercise:
We will go for walks, to the local dog parks, chew bones, and play lots of squeaky ball and tug (if the dog likes to play that). Sometimes Noodle would chase us around the house. When he was a puppy, he would nip my heels and then I learned that corgis are dispersers. As he grew, if we did anything exciting in the house, he would chase us, not nip anymore, but he loved the excitement.
