| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
This corgi will be for the both of us. We are two 26 year olds in a long term relationship living in Chicago, and could not be more excited to add a Pembroke to our family!
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
It has been a dream of ours to adopt a corgi for years – we fell in love with the breed many years ago for their adorable big ears, beautifullly full coats, and long bodies– what's not to love about their appearance?! As for their personalities, we adore the energetic aspect of a herding breed balanced with their cuddly, protective, and wonderfully sweet demeaner. Nick grew up with dogs, both large and small. Now that we are looking to get a dog of our own, Nick loves the idea of a small dog with a large personality. For years, Michael has spent time researching information about the breed and understanding the needs for a household to support a healthy and comfortable environment for a corgi. Not to mention watching and looking at adorable photos and videos of corgis all over the world! Also, Michael has been a dog walker for the past year or so and had the honor of taking care of a sweet pembroke welsh corgi just last month. The sweet pemmie was so well behaved, very curious, and full of love. It made it that much more clear that it was time to add a pemmie to our family as soon as we could. We are so dedicated to providing a supportive and healthy environment for a corgi – it would be a dream come true!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We are dedicated to doing all types of activities with our pembroke. We live across the street from expansive parks near Lake Michigan in Chicago. The parks are filled with lots of families and dogs to run around in. We dream of the days when we can bring our corgi to the parks near the lake to get some exercise. We also would love to go on long walks in the family-friendly neighborhood that we live in, letting the dog be curious and explore! Also, we live in a very dog friendly building with a dog run, so there will be great opportunities for our corgi to be able to socialize with other dogs (if that's part of it's specific personality). We also are dedicated to lots of time to cuddle and play at home, keeping the corgi entertained and expending energy, while also giving it time to relax and rest as needed.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
We are willing to follow the advice and guidance from our trainer. We understand that a rescue may need a more unique training structure, and we are willing to do whatever it takes to make a corgi feel comfortable and safe in its environment. We are absolutely against any sort of physical, harsh, or neglectful forms of punishment. Though we believe that mistakes must be corrected, doing so in a constructive and educational way sums up our approach to obedience training.
Discipline: |
We are very dedicated to working with a trainer to learn and follow through with the best disciplinary method for our corgi. We are both very passionate about providing the best structured and consistent training possible for our corgi, appreciating that a well trained dog is a happy dog.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our pembroke would spend most of his or her time in our apartment. It is bright, airy, comfortable, and safe. However, we would take the dog outside on multiple walks and excursions outside every day. We live an active lifestyle, and are eager to share all aspects of that with our corgi.

People at home during the day? |
Our work schedules are structured so that one of us starts work later in the day, and the other is home earlier, leaving a smaller window of time where our corgi would be home without one of us than if we both worked a traditional 9-5 schedule. In addition, we plan on making accommodations for our corgi to be walked daily in the afternoon while we are at work. This schedule only applies to week days, where on weekends we will both be home during the day spending as much time as possible with our wonderful dog.
Where would dog eat? |
We have space in our kitchen that allows for our corgi to enjoy his or her food and water throughout the day. It is a clean, spacious, and consistent environment for our corgi to have meals.
Where would dog sleep: |
We are open to advice from a trainer as to where the best place for a corgi to sleep will be in our home. Whether this is in a crate, or on a separate dog bed, there are plenty of spaces in our apartment that are available to make a dedicated sleeping space for our corgi.
Play & exercise: |
We live across the street from beautiful and spacious parks that are great for exercises with dogs. We already love these parks as areas to walk/exercise with just the two of us, so adding a dog into the mix is a natural fit! These parks allow for our corgi to get lots of fresh air, run around with us, and explore different environments (like, grass, trees, and beaches). We live in a dog-friendly building with a dog run that will allow for socialization (if the dog is comfortable with that), and our apartment is in a great neighborhood that allows for lots of walks down family-friendly streets and fun sights and smells along with way. We are active individuals who are looking forward to getting out and about with our dog living playfully and full of adventure.

We are dedicated to making sure that our corgi is safe and secure at all times.
