|
Who is this dog for? |
Ryan Verkman and Amanda Mathias
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We love corgis! I have studied dog breeds since I was a child and have always admired corgis, but my boyfriend is very interested in the breed and the one behind truly behind the application. We love their fun nature and desire to "keep up". I stayed in a home which had a corgi for a short time, and have also spent the last summer working on a farm at which a corgi cross resided, so I am familiar with the breed in person as well.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Lots of outside playtime and inside cuddle time! We have a very active household and frequently go for runs or walks with the dogs. We love hiking and spending time in our large fenced-in backyard. I spend a lot of time working on training with the younger 2 dogs (the golden is seasoned and does not require training sessions) and the cattle dog cross is currently working on his heelwork. The cattle dog/border collie cross has started agility classes as well, so we have a few pieces of agility equipment to play with as well. Ryan plays softball in the summer and we would very much enjoy bringing our corgi to the games! I also have horses and spend a lot of time at the barn, so if his personality allows, we may bring him there as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I am under the belief that dogs do not make mistakes on purpose, and if they are exhibiting unwanted behavior, there is a flaw in their training. This leads me to analyze where I left a gap and make additions or corrections to their training sessions.
Discipline: |
I primarily use redirection training.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Inside while we are gone, wherever we are when we are home. Kenneled if required, left out if capable.

People at home during the day? |
Ryan and I have split shifts. I work mornings to afternoons, he works mid-day to evenings. There is a period of about 5 hours the dogs are left alone. The younger two are kenneled, the golden is left out.
Where would dog eat? |
In the kitchen or dining room.
Where would dog sleep: |
In our bedroom on a dog bed.
Play & exercise: |
Daily exercise and play! I usually go for a 20-30 minute jog or 30-45 minute walk after work. Each dog gets a minimum 15 minutes individual training sessions (treat-training), minimum 15 minutes individual inside play time (play-training), minimum 30 minutes outside play time depending on the weather – more if it's nice out, less if it's frigid or wet. Constant monitored play time with the other dogs when we are home before quiet time (9pm) if he so chooses.
