Who is this dog for?

For myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis were my first children before I had my human children. I love all the temperament and mindset of the breed. I like the fact that they are a little dog, but they are tough like a big dog. I love that they frap, sploot, and love tummy rubs. I like that they like routine. They are smart, sensitive intelligent animals. My two Corgis passed away in 2013 and 2016. They lived nice long lives, but it was so hard to see them go. I just wanted them to be with me forever. I did not want to rush in to getting another dog. I took time to process, and really believe I could best help by adopting a dog. I know the puppies will always find homes, but I worry about the dogs that are older or the dogs that get left behind. I know I can be there for them. Therefore, I'd like to adopt. I think it's the right thing to do at this time in my life (I'm 47 years old, gulp!). I have grown up with dogs and horses (I showed horses) all my life. I am very experienced with animal husbandry. I am a registered nurse in surgery by trade. I have been involved with Corgis since 2002. I love the breed. My family thinks I'm crazy because I never stop talking about Corgis! My husband finally had a weak moment, and said, "Ok, you can get your Corgi." I am always trying to stay current on the breed, and I do/have researched the breed. I am very familiar with the positives and negatives of Corgis.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I love walking, so walking is a big one. I also live near Kirk Park which has a dog beach right on Lake Michigan. Frisbee/ball in the park (if it's a Corgi that likes to do that). Or, just snuggling on the couch on a lazy weekend. Corgis are very loyal companions, so I love having out with them just as much as they like hanging out with the humans. My Corgis were part of the family, so pretty much wherever we went, they went too.: vacations, the lake, road trips, etc.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would do a couple of things: 1) perhaps not wait so long to let the dog out. 2) Find a potty spot that dog feels safe, comfortable using. 3) Use positive reinforcement "Good girl!" and pets, praise (Corgis like to please) 4) Make sure the dog is not stressed 5) Establish a potty routine (Corgis like routine).

Discipline:
Usually verbal "No." Again, Corgis like to please, so I have never had to go to great lengths to discipline. My two would get in a fight over food before, and I had to separate them and put them in separate rooms. I set a timer for 2 minutes, and then let them out of their respective rooms.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My husband works from our house, and I work 3 days a week, so the dog would be with one of us. My husband likes to take an afternoon walk between conference calls, and I can definitely see him taking the dog for a walk.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
My husband is home during the day since he works out of the house. I am home 2 days a week.

Where would dog eat?
I always have fed my dogs in the same spot for continuity. Typically they are fed in the mudroom off the kitchen or the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
I would start in crate until the dog was familiar with us and the house, then doggy bed….and, if it's a true corgi, it will end up in my bed!

Play & exercise:
My husband and I are both very active. So, the corgi would have plenty of play time. We live in a 4200 sq ft home, and we have a large backyard and front yard. Also, plenty of walking paths along the lakeshore.
