Who is this dog for?

This would be for me.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My best friends have a corgi and that is how I was introduced to the breed. I have done my research on corgis as well. I love the playful personality, and how friendly and social they can be. I also would never consider a dog that would weigh 50 lbs or more so a corgi is the ideal size. As far as shedding goes, I am also prepared and aware that I’ll be needing to vacuum often.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I live right on the lake shire and on the park. I’m an active person and would take the corgi with me everywhere. Mostly to the park but since I live in such a safe and walkable neighborhood, where dogs are typically catered to, I’d bring my corgi around to meet the neighbors.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Assuming the corgi has had proper training, I would first sternly say no so the dog is immediately notified that the action was wrong, and I’d use this to get his attention. I would never hit a dog.

Discipline:
To discipline the time out method seems to work best with dogs that love to be social. A timeout for about 20 seconds in the bathroom with the door shut.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Mostly with me, and I’m outside a lot, or in my place. But if I can’t always be there then I’d have plenty of neighbors who love dogs and would be willing to help out.

House dog

People at home during the day?
I live in a condo where everyone loves dogs. We have a big dog community here and everyone helps out.
I currently can work for home but if I had to be out of the house for all day I certainly could have a friend or neighbor take the dog until I get home.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen

Where would dog sleep:
In a dog crate by my bed.

Play & exercise:
We’d go to the park to play and socialize, long walks on lake shore. I am a runner/jogger, depending on the corgi I may see if it does well going on jogs/runs with me.

How will you exercise your dog?
