Who is this dog for?

For the family as a companion dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love little dogs with short legs and long bodies. I have never spent time with a corgi–so no experience there. I have read that they are smart, stubborn, loyal and need to be with their family 22 hours out of 24.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I take Addie on walks 3 to 4 times a week. Sometimes they are just short 1/2 hour walks. Sometimes they last for over an hour. Depends on what's going on that day, I also take her XC skiing and snow shoeing. My Husband has taken her ice fishing. During the Summer we take her to the lake for a swim. She has her own life jacket. In the Fall we take her to the local county parks and let her run loose pending on the amount of people around.

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With Addie I usually say "NO" in a loud, deep voice and remove dog from the situation–pending on what the 'mistake' is about..

Discipline:
When Addie is not behaving I try to catch her in the 'activity of concern' and stop her by saying 'No Addie' and apply pressure/pushing her down on the shoulders. I'm not forceful or mean about it.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the Family room where we spend the majority of our time. As I get to trust the dog more, I will let her have more access to the house and eventually let her sleep upstairs with the family.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Most the time. I work 2 days a week 12 hour shifts. My Husband works days 8 hour shift/40 hours a week. My 18 y/o works mostly weekends at night. My 15 y/o is at school during the week.

Where would dog eat?
I haven't decided that one yet. Addie has her dish at the back entrance off the family room. I think the dogs should have separate feeding areas to prevent 'food issues'. Maybe just have a community water dish.

Where would dog sleep:
She would sleep in the family room where there is the kennel and be kenneled at night. When she gains my trust she can have more access to the house. Addie kinda bed hops during the night. Usually she sleeps with my husband and I.

Play & exercise:
We have a pretty good size yard that is fenced in. We have a large walnut tree with plenty of squirrels to chase. Addie sprints from the side door to the pine tree in back about 10 times a day. With all her running you'd think she would be skin and bones. Still kinda chunky.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
It's a 6 foot wood privacy fence.

Description of yard:

My yard is fenced in. I have a lot of flowers surrounding the inside perimeter. There use to be plants around the pine trees but Addie flatten those out. We do have a wood chicken house that I would like to convert to a doggie play house (my 9 y/o chicken just died). We have a baby pool for the dog–she really doesn't use it though. But I like to stick my feet into it once in awhile.

Household members:

Everyone in household agrees about adopting a corgi?
Yes, everyone agrees and wants to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

May we do a home visit?

Yes, I will allow LPWCR representatives to inspect my home prior to allowing me to adopt a Pembroke.

Who will be responsible for the adopted corgi’s care?
kelly parkinen. The kids are pretty good about brushing the dog.

Willing to train children?
They are old enough and do pretty well. Kaitlyn likes to play with Addie like she is a dog and I think Addie is going to bite her in the face one of these days.

Any allergies?

No one is allergic.

Current pets:

Current pets dog friendly?

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
I'm going to keep them separate for awhile using a baby gate. They will be able to see/smell each other but not have direct contact. I think it would be best to take them for walks together for bonding . Hannah would help with that. Jeff would too. I'm really not worried about Addie being aggressive–she has had other dogs bark/growl at her and she did not respond like wise. But I do expect she will not like to share her Daddy with others.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Carefully considered the pluses and minuses of adopting a pet?
Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
