I live on a farm with Icelandic Sheep and cattle. The large area around my home is fenced and my dog is confined to that area. I would not want a corgi to get in with the sheep, partially as a concern that the dog would harass them but also that the sheep would chase the dog. My dog once jumped in the pen with the sheep and I had to rescue her from being butted. Dog should also be cat friendly.

Who is this dog for?

For me and also as a companion to my pyrenees/border collie.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I've loved corgis since my grandmother gave me one of Tasha Tudor's books as a child. My experiences with corgis are limited to a neighbor with one and admiring them from afar. Yes, I have done research on the breed. Not a fan of small dogs, I've always considered corgis an exception as they house a big dog personality in a small package. After I lost my last two dogs to old age, I thought I might be ready for a small dog. Gypsy came into my life, clearly not small. I still think small would still be good addition.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Living on a farm means being outside much of the time, so I would expect a corgi to be outside with me. I would also appreciate a corgi that would chase groundhogs and rabbits for recreation. And squirrels. The deer usually stay on the other side of the fence. I take Gypsy to town with me, and while she oddly doesn't appreciate the dog park, she loves to go to the farm supply store. There's a great dog obedience trainer in a nearby town and I would expect to take a corgi to dog obedience.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would first examine my behavior and if I created the situation that contributed or caused the mistake. I believe in gentle correction and changing the environment if that was a contributor.
When I first got my current dog, at one year old, she dug holes all over the yard. So I planted daffodils in the holes. She doesn't dig anymore, so I have to dig my own daffodil holes.

Discipline:
If the mistake is observed immediately, "no" or "leave it",

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me, inside or out, as she/he prefers. My Pyrenees/Border Collie let me know that she wanted to spend the night outside protecting the farm. We worked it out, and now I only insist that she's inside if it's too cold or hot at night. She's usually out all night doing her job and sleeping all day on the love seat.
