Why do you want a Pembroke?
Rescuing our corgi Zoey has been the most rewarding experience. We had another corgi named Gizmo whom we purchased through a breeder, but had to put him down four years ago. We have had corgis for over ten years and don't see how any other need can compare. We love their energy, their spunk, and their playful attitude. But we have also decided that we will only rescue dogs from now on. We don't want to purchase ever again. That's why we wanted to apply with your rescue.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We walk Zoey every day. She loves to play in our back yard with our girls in the snow and the sun. We absolutely love taking her to the park with us during warmer weather. The best part of our days are always the snuggles on the couch.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
In our house, we start by redirecting Zoey. We try to stop the negative action and replace with a positive (if we catch her chewing on a child's toy, we try to redirect with one of her toys). We also encourage positive behavior with lots of praise when we see it.

Discipline:
The biggest thing we do is try to train for the expected behaviors. We also make sure that we are consistent with our commands. We will also separate Zoey from a situation if we don't think she can handle it so that she is not in a situation where she might make a poor choice.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We let Zoey roam throughout the house. She is allowed on furniture, but does not share our bed. We do have a fenced in backyard where she enjoys running around and racing our neighbor dogs.

People at home during the day?
I am home with my girls working the summer, we are all home on weekends, but the corgi would be alone on school days. Zoey is typically alone from 8-4:30.

Where would dog eat?
We feed Zoey in a bowl in our kitchen twice a day.

Where would dog sleep:
Our Zoey sleeps in our room on her own bed.

Play & exercise:
Daily walks are something we do for Zoey. It really helps with any anxiety. She also gets several trips to the backyard to play if weather permits. We also someone lots of time playing in the living room. Our corgi is active for around 1-2 hours a day depending on time of year.
