Must be okay with cats and other dogs. We currently have resident cat who would likely just like to coincide next to the dog, not be a playmate. We do understand that training will be our responsibility to ensure both the dog and the cat understand what’s expected. We also anticipate having another dog in the future and have many friends with dogs who bring them to our home when they visit.

Who is this dog for?

The future pembroke would be an addition to our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love how social, playful, and active the breed is. Karl and I are active outdoors people who love to take walks and get outside. We are looking for a family dog who is also intelligent and trainable – something corgis are well known for! Depending on if this pup would be the right fit, I would consider training him/her to be a therapy dog. I currently work in a hospital setting and would love to come on my off days as a volunteer and therapy dog. We also have a corgi on our neighborhood block and would love to add another!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We have a fenced in yard perfect for running and playing fetch. We also live 1.5 blocks from Minneapolis’s extensive trail system where we already do plenty of runs and walking and would love to incorporate a corgi into our routine.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Establishing discipline by using our voice to stop the unwanted behavior and avoid giving the dog attention when they misbehave. We would also be consistent with handling behaviors to avoid creating confusion for the dog on what is appropriate.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement of good behaviors with use of treats and praise. Quickly disciplining undesirable behaviors as specified about and remaining consistent with them. Obedience training would also be mandatory.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At our home
