We would consider a Pembroke from any activity level, but I do want to be physically active with it. A "couch potato" Pembroke that isn't comfortable with moderate exercise and play might not be a great fit,

| Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions | |||||||
|
Who is this dog for? |
My Dad and I are looking to adopt a Pembroke for ourselves.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Back in 2004, my family adopted a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We named him, Tucker. Tucker lived with us for fourteen years and was well loved. He had an excitement and energy about him that was absolutely contagious. Tucker was playful, intelligent, and mischievous. His personality was very compatible with my family. From what I've read and experienced with other Pembrokes, Tucker's traits are relatively common in the breed.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I would take the Pembroke on multiple walks outside every day and occasionally go for a hike. I would also bring the Pembroke outside with me when I'm working in the garden or doing other things on our property. As far as indoor activities, I have a plethora of toys to play with. I used to do all sorts of goofy things with my last Pembroke, Tucker. My plan is to keep the Pembroke active and having fun.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
My response would vary depending on the "mistake". First and foremost, I would make sure the Pembroke's mistake hasn't resulted in any immediate danger. If the Pembroke has wound up in a hazardous situation, I would remove the Pembroke to a safer location before doing anything else. After that, I would respond gently, but consistently. It's hard to give a specific response without knowing the mistake. My Dad and I would do our best to make an environment at home that is "mistake-proof" which would minimize any mistakes in the first place.
Discipline: |
As I mentioned above, we try to set up an environment that is safe and encourages good behavior. Discipline for our house has always come down to reinforcing the desired types of behaviors and redirecting negative behaviors. We don't plan to "crate" our Pembroke unless it is for training.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our Pembroke would spend most of their time at our house.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes, there will almost always be someone home during the day.
Where would dog eat? |
We have a specific spot near the area I specified above that will house the Pembroke's food and water dishes.
Where would dog sleep: |
Our last Pembroke usually slept in his dedicated spot underneath our counter top near our garage door. The spot is quite spacious and likely more comfortable than a crate. It's hard to describe the spot, but I believe it was built to be a storage space. Imagine a rectangular cave beneath a counter top. I've seen similar spaces that are used to store shoes, but our space is larger. The front is open so the Pembroke is free to come and go as it pleases. With bedding material inside the space, it is quite cozy. Our previous Pembroke also enjoyed sleeping around the house or in one of our rooms from time to time.
Play & exercise: |
I will play with our adopted Corgi all the time. My dad will play with them as well, but to a lesser degree. My favorite thing about Pembrokes is their energy and I plan to take full advantage of that. I would often play with our previous Pembroke until they were worn out or grew bored. Even without a daily exercise schedule, I can guarantee I will play/exercise with the Corgi multiple times every day.
