Who is this dog for?

Mainly for Matt, who just had to put down his 14.5 yr old rescue dog that came down with DM. But we both want a Corgi to join our home & family. We don't have any children. The dogs are our kids and our life revolves around them. We currently have 5 Australian Shepherds that are trained in obedience, rally & some agility, and we also have an older Australian Cattle Dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Jennifer used to be a 4-H leader for 10 years, and one of her students had 2 Corgi's, which is when we fell in love with the breed. We love herding dogs in general, and are looking for something smaller to add to our family. We love their energy. We are familiar with health problems that can arise in this breed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We attend ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) shows, and any dog can compete in their obedience, rally & agility programs. If the dog showed any interest in those, we'd love to pursue it. If not, we would just enjoy living with the dog, where it could go on walks on our 55 acre farm with us.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We use positive correction & training. We have several years experience training dogs in obedience and rally.

Discipline:
We use positive correction. All of our dogs have some level of obedience training, even if just to the novice level. We want our entire group to live together well, and for us to enjoy living with them all.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At night, until trusted, our dogs are crated. Once they can be trusted, they sleep lose in our house. If we are just going to be gone for a bit, we use a crate. If we're going to be gone for a few hours, we have 4×8 kennels, with rubber mat flooring and kuranda pet cots. The dog will spend most of it's time inside with us.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
We are both gone during the workday hours.

Where would dog eat?
Our dogs eat their meals in their crates, twice a day.

Where would dog sleep:
Crated in the kitchen, or lose in the house once trusted.

Play & exercise:
We have other dogs that all enjoy playing together. We have a large fenced in yard for outdoor exercise as weather permits. The amount is all dependent on the weather. When it's super cold or hot, they are usually just out to potty and then we play indoors the rest of the time. When it's nice out, our dogs enjoy playing in the yard a lot!

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We have a 5' tall chain link fenced in yard. The main dog play yard is 50×75, but we also have a smaller yard in between that connects our garage to our house, so they can run out to potty and come back in.
