Who is this dog for?

 I’m interested in adopting a Corgi rescue. I’ve also loved the breed and previously had a mixed corgi dog. I currently have 1 female dog who is mixed breed.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love the breed. They are highly intelligent and want to please there owners making them very trainable. My sweet Scooter was a Corgi and Schipperke mix and was such a joy. He had a little extra sass but with socialization that was kept at a minimum. I have researched the breed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Right now Stella and I go on a long walk in the morning and then another in the evening. We try to at a minimum get 30 mins in. On the weekends we love to explore forest preserves and curl up for a lazy day.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If the dog is actively doing a behavior that is a mistake I would try and redirect it or their attention. If I get home and a mistake has happened like chewing or potty accident I clean up and move on. Also ensure the dog is getting proper activity to try and curb behavior.

Discipline:
 I try to use positive reinforcement when positive things are happening. In the past to try and curb jumping I would turn my back to the dog until they settled.

 In my apartment

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
 Stella had little to no issues with Scooter my previous dog. Scooter was the 1st and Stella was introduced later. They lived together for 11 years. As of recent Stella has exhibited light aggression towards some dogs when we are outside or within her living space. She did not exhibit aggression with Scooter. He was a mixed breed of Corgi. I don’t anticipate this to be a problem that can’t be resolved with proper training. She has been food possessive in the past and I believe that could present again with a new addition but it is something we can rework on and establish good routines.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

 Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
