Who is this dog for?

The pembroke is for the two of us.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love corgis. We recently lost our corgi. We adopted her when she was 7. Over the 3.5 years we had her, she was slowly affected by DM. A year into having her, we got her a cart to help her get around. We believe she had a lot of life left in her and we think the cart helped to slow down her aging. I hope to get another corgi. While we are open to having an older corgi, we would like to have more time with our next corgi. We love their personalities and sassy attitudes and hope to find a corgi that is active and friendly.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We really enjoyed walking our corgi a lot. When she was able, we went for long walks almost everyday. We would like one that we could take places and socialize with other dogs and people. My husband manages a pub that is very dog friendly and we would love to take our corgi there very often. We also have a nice sized, fenced in back yard that it could run around in and play in. Our neighborhood is also filled with dogs. Occasionally, our nephew stays with us and he loves dogs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We are pretty patient people. I would verbally reprimand the dog and maybe remove it from the situation if necessary.

Discipline:
Mostly verbal and a time out if needed. I plan to attend training classes to help the corgi and us know what will work best.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our house with us. One of us is home most of the time. I work during the day and my husband usually works in the evening, occasionally during the day.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, most days

Where would dog eat?
We have a spot by the back door where our last corgi ate.

Where would dog sleep:
We would have a bed for it in our family room. We also have a crate that we may use. Our previous dog never slept in our bed and I would like to maintain that.

Play & exercise:
Our corgi would have a lot of time for play and activity. My husband walked our dog every morning and I walked her every night (when she was able). Our next door neighbor also has two friendly and active dogs who would love to play. We would also take the dog to parks and hiking.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Our cats mostly avoided our last corgi. They are used to having a dog in the house. Our older cat Tina stays outside (her choice) from spring through fall. Daphne is mostly inside but goes out occasionally. She comes around but keeps her distance from the dog. Neither cats are aggressive towards dogs.
