Other preferences:
Our current dog cannot walk too far (due to a leg injury) so we wouldn't mind a dog who might be in a similar condition. We also don't mind walking one further than the other; there's also a dog park in relative distance to our house. It would be great if this dog is friendly with other dogs and kids, but we do not have any kids so this is not a big deal.

Who is this dog for?

My husband and I are hoping for another dog and buddy for current yorkshire terrier, Coco.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My husband and I enjoy walking, and we want to expand this into hiking. Minnesota has lots of trails for hiking (we're actually pretty close to a few of them). Corgis are known to be excellent hiking companions since they are so agile and intelligent. We would love a companion that could keep up and motivate us to go regularly. Also, Corgis are about the right height for our current dog who has trouble with really large dogs. He doesn't mind little dogs, but he has a bit of an ego and thinks he's better than them so a dog who is a bit bigger (like Corgi sized) would be best. I would like to note that our yorkie is bigger, 14lbs (healthy! we checked with the vet, he's just a bit bigger… maybe more terrier than yorkie). I also think that a Corgi's grooming, eating, general health, etc. patterns are pretty similar to Coco so to add on another dog would not be an issue. Since we are already visiting a groomer about every two months (dependent on the season, winters are cold in Minnesota!) and Coco gets weekly/bi-weekly baths, a Corgi's grooming schedule would easily match ours. Of course, we can adjust as needed. Also, our yorkie stays on a pretty strict diet of 1/4 cup of dog food twice a day and a couple of treats, so we could keep the Corgi on the same kind of schedule to keep them from being overweight. I've only met a few Corgis (who were all amazingly well behaved so I might have been spoiled), but from researching their lifespans and needs, I would say the match our dog pretty well so I would love to have another dog to kind of add to the mix. We also don't have kids so our dog kind of takes the place of kids.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, playtime with toys (whether that's fetch or tug or whatever else they enjoy doing, our dog loves tug and half-fetch… where he fetches then tugs then fetches again), hikes at parks, car trips (we frequently go to Wisconsin to see friends), pets and brushing, hanging out with family and friends, visiting dog parks, hanging out on the couch at home, chilling on the outside deck (as weather permits), winter tunneling through the snow (if they want), anything that the foster/expert recommends we do additionally

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on when the mistake was made and what kind of mistake. First analyze and make sure the dog isn't sick or has some other underlying problem.
If the mistake was made a while ago, nothing to do but clean it up and make sure the odor is all gone so they don't do it again (well try anyway).
If you catch them in the act, a solid no (not yelling but command) and disappointed look (along with treats for good behavior) works well for my dog (he hasn't had an accident in years). However, it's better to reward them when they go out and continue to encourage that behavior.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement, rewarding good behavior with praise, pets, and treats; ensuring that their environment is not causing them stress (again analyzing to make sure that the problem is not something else); finding the root of the behavior and going from there which may just be to remove them from the room for a time once they've calmed down, finding a class if necessary
If they're not used to something, patiently and slowly getting them accustomed to it.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
in our townhouse; if they require a crate, we can do a crate, but our other dog usually just roams the house or sleeps in our room).

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
We are gone from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Where would dog eat?
We have food bowls in the dining room. We would set up another one a few feet away from each other so the dogs can eat without feeling like the other will eat their food.

Where would dog sleep:
They can sleep in the bedroom with us on their own bed or we can set up a bed in the basement where it's cooler if that's what they need (our room can get warm, Coco hides under the bed and sleeps). They can sleep in a crate if that's what they need. Additionally, there's an office right next to our bedroom if they just need a little space. We're kind of open to what the dog needs.

Play & exercise:
We're hoping Coco and the Pembroke will play together, but of course, we'll play too. We usually play quite a few times a day with Coco (whenever he brings a toy to us). We can walk once or twice a day (weather dependent, Minnesota is sporadic).
We're usually not too busy on the weekends so we can visit a dog park or go somewhere. Even weekdays we can be pretty open, so an afternoon dog park visit would be ok.
We visit friends bi-weekly on the weekends in Wisconsin, they have a lot of land so out there the Corgi can run and play. We can adapt as needed too.
