Who is this dog for?

For both of us! We are a married couple hoping to find a corgi companion to be part of our family. We both love dogs and have found that corgis are the best breed for our current lifestyle.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Michael: Growing up as a child, my family never had pets. But, from my friends who have had dogs, they were always extremely happy. I have found that people who have pets (or had pets) were always the happiest people I have known. They have told me that having a dog who's affectionate is like having their own child; always excited for them to come home from work, always willing to go out and play, giving a sense of joy whenever their around. I wish to be able to experience that same feeling with a Corgi specifically because not only are they the most adorable puppies and dogs that I have seen, they are intelligent, they're active (Anne and I love going for walks before and after school, and on weekends). I haven't had many experiences with Pembroke Corgis, but have found them to be amazing. The first ever "experience" was watching a show called "Cowboy Bebop" and the show had a character called "Ein", who was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi! The show definitely showed the characteristics of an actual Pembroke Welsh Corgi because it was super intelligent and loyal to its family.

Anne: Similar to Michael's points, I also love dogs. Growing up, my family had a German Shepard named Rudy. Rudy was an amazing dog and added a lot my family. He brought so much joy and happiness to my sister and myself, and I would love to have Michael experience the same feeling with his first dog as well. I love the Pembroke Welsh Corgi because it is a smaller dog breed and will work well in our single family home. It is also an adorable breed! After researching from different online resources (wagwalking.com, akc.org, your website, etc.) I believe the Pembroke will be a great match for our lifestyle. We both have had positive experiences with Corgis, although we have only met a few. It would be amazing to bring the Pembroke Corgi into our neighborhood and have him/her meet the other dogs!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would go for long walks around the neighborhood, play in our backyard, bring our Pembroke to our friends and family to have him play in different places and interact with different people/pets. We have a a nearby dog park that we can take our Pembroke to interact with other dogs. There are also obedient schools in our areas that is highly reputable.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
It depends on what kind of mistake that the Pembroke has made. For example, if it decides to continue to jump on people, we have to ignore the behavior to show that we are not giving it attention. If the Pembroke makes a mistake such as chewing on furniture, we will deliberately not reward him for this and give him a chew toy instead and reward him for using the chew toy. A lot of correcting mistakes require positive reinforcement, and as teachers, we practice this everyday.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement when they do something well. It's important for dogs to learn that if they do something well, they get rewarded.

We will redirect the dog as needed. Just as with the chew toy example, giving them an owner-approved toy will teach the dog that chewing on the chew toy is good, but the pair of shoes are not.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home, either in our downstairs area (it is tiled, so clean up for bathroom accidents are easy), our upstairs area (we will dog-proof most of the furniture and items. Also no carpet for easy cleanup for accidents), our back addition that is very open and can serve as a play area (tile/laminate flooring) and our backyard (where it can run around and play).
