Who is this dog for?

Julie Wojewski but Matt and I will be training/taking care of it together.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am interested in corgis because I love active, herding type dogs. Growing up, my family always had German Shepards and I enjoy how active and sweet they are but I am looking for something more compact but with a similar personality. I fostered a corgi for 3 months and fell in love with her intelligence, energy and over all willingness to learn and please (while somehow still being soo stubborn! haha). I also dog sit for an Australian Shepard (who is a little over one years old) and enjoy her friendliness, drive, and energy. I have never owned a dog on my own so I understand it will be different than owning a dog as a family but I am willing (and plan to!) take it to training to gain basic manners.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hiking, camping, daily walks and fetch. I would love to get a dog that is well socialized and good around people of all kinds so I can take it on trips with me. I want this dog to actively be a part of my life.

Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Positive reinforcement. Redirecting its behavior and making sure it gets the proper amount of exercise. Making sure the dog is in a comfortable and stable situation.

Discipline:
Put it in time out, distract or redirect behavior. Always use firm commands, and be constant in training, so not to confuse the dog or make it think it can get away with things it the owner gets worn down. NEVER be aggressive towards the dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the home with me.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I work 40 hours a week but Matt works in an office and is able to bring well behaved pets in (its a small office, there is only one dog that is sometimes there currently) so potentially he will be taking the dog in with him occasionally if he/she is the right fit for the office. If not he/she would spend their day while we are at work crated, or just at home free if trusted. We also often have different days of the week off from work so the dog will probably not be left alone for the full 40 hours some weeks. I am able (and very willing) to come home mid day during lunch everyday if necessary.

Where would dog eat?
With a bowl attached to the outside of his/her crate. Or if no crate necessary in the dinning room.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom, probably crated at 1st and if trusted (and once I get to know the dog a little more) out with a bed on the floor.

Play & exercise:
Daily and multiple times, before and after work. I look forward to taking them on hikes, to the dog park and of course daily walks and playtime outside!
