Who is this dog for?

Hi, This Pembroke corgi is for my partner Gael and I. We has a 15 y.o. corgi, Griffin, who passed away this year from D.M. We are ready to open our hearts and home to another corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love then energy and character of the breed: big dog attitude in a little package, bossy, friendly, happy and full of character.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Long walks, playing in the yard and at dog park, behavioral training and, possibly, agility training.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We got some good training with our very alpha, headstrong corgi Griffin – I would like to get more specific training. In general, I found praise and distraction to be more effective than getting upset at the dog.

Discipline:
Consistency and training to figure out what the dog "wants" when they are misbehaving and then figuring out how to turn their attention to another goal or direction.

We had success with many specific commands and less success with others ("come" and "heal"). We definitely will get more training to try to avoid bad habits.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
with us in our house or outdoors doing outdoor activities. We spend weeks in the summer at a cottage on a lake with is a wonderful place for pets.

People at home during the day?
Yes – I work out of the home 100% of the time and am considering retirement this year.

Where would dog eat?
We fed griffin "Blue Diamond" lamb and rice dog food, but would go by the Vet's recommends, what the dog likes and what seems healthiest.

Where would dog sleep:
In our bedroom in a kennel, and / or on a dog bed on the floor – no sleeping on the bed.

Play & exercise:
About an hour a day and more on the weekend.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

We have a 1/4 acre corner yard in a wooded older suburban neighborhood in Madison, WI. We have many native plants, a gravel courtyard and a small koi pond with goldfish. We have a motion sensor sprayer near the pond if the dog is curious or destructive toward the fish. Griff was only ever interested in drinking mucky pond water, which we highly discouraged, but he didn't have any interest in the fish!
