I am looking for a dog who gets along well with other dogs. I am fortunate enough to be able to bring my dog to the office, and I want them to be able to enjoy themself and be able to play with their officemates. I am also a foster mom, and I would love it if my dog could welcome my fosters in and get along with them in a safe and calming yet fun setting. PLEASE NOTE- while my address is in AZ, my parents live in IL which means I am easily able & willing to come in when necessary |

Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have loved this breed since I was 10 years old. I love the big dog energy & mentality in the little body. I grew up with German Shepherds, who originally sparked my love of the herding group. Their intelligence, loyalty, and affection make them (the herding group) the best group there is! Every interaction I've ever had with a PWC has made me laugh, and always brightens my day. Their hearts are just so big, and today we all need a little more love. The woman who sits next to me at work has 3 corgis, and I have come to love them as my own. Every morning they stop by and say good morning to me, they take their afternoon nap underneath my desk, and they know when I've had a rough day and are ready to comfort me. I want a Corgi because I need a companion who can live their life alongside me. I want a best friend to be there for me when I need them, and someone to challenge me to step out and be the best dog mom I can be. I'm looking for a best friend who will love me forever, but also make me earn that love. I am a person who needs someone/something to take care of, and I believe a PWC will gladly accept my affection and love, and reciprocate in full. Because I've been interested in this breed since I was 10, I can confidently say I've read just about every book written on this breed. Every day I try to learn something new.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
As I mentioned earlier, I am fortunate enough to work somewhere all pets are welcome in the office. So the PWC will have a multitude of friends to make and play with during the week. I live just outside of Scottsdale, which is consistently ranked in the top 5 most dog-friendly cities. Almost every store, restaurant & mall is dog-friendly. So we'd have lots of fun at home… Within a 5 mile radius of my apartment alone, there are 3 dog parks. I also live in the valley, so there is a multitude of hiking trails I could take my PWC on. And if the PWC is a couch potato- snuggles in front of the tv sound just as amazing. Really, I am looking for a best friend to take everywhere with me. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest, with my best furry friend by my side.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
With all my dogs, I've made it a priority to establish myself as the alpha of the pack. If a mistake is made, I make sure to sternly correct the dog (verbally, not physically). If it's a recurring mistake- for example housetraining, I would make sure to repeatedly praise and reward the appropriate/correct action.
Discipline: |
Mostly verbal. Unless it's an issue like jumping, I will be stern (without being violent) in keeping the dog on the floor and not jumping. I know with corgi's jumping and hurting someone is not a huge concern, however, it is important to me that my dogs have good manners.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With me, at the office (in Arizona). The office has a dog park and outdoor workspaces so the dogs can get out and enjoy being outdoors and have the ability to play.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
No. But the occurance of the dog being at home alone during the day would be few and far between.
Where would dog eat? |
At home, I have my bowls in the kitchen on the tile where if a mess were made it'd be easily cleaned up. At work, I have bowls next to my desk.
Where would dog sleep: |
I believe in crate training. I believe that dogs need a "safe space" that is their own. At first, the adopted corgi would sleep in its crate in the living room or my room, depending on the size of the dog. But once I'm confident that the corgi is comfortable in its crate and knows that it has a safe space to sleep (or to just unwind) I would leave the crate unlocked overnight and let it sleep where it pleases. My last foster was very comfortable sleeping on the futon underneath the window in my roommate's room where it could see everything.
Play & exercise: |
There are dog parks, galore where I live. At work, there is a large dog park outside, where I would take it multiple times a day. And on the weekends we'd frequent dog parks, and maybe even go on a few hikes (in the wintertime). Ideally, I'd like to get to the dog park once a day on the weekends, and three times a day at work.
