Type of Dog Wanted | |||||||
Ages interested in: |
0 months – 1 year (we rarely get dogs in this age group), 1 year – 3 years, 3 years – 5 years | Gender preferred: |
Either a Male or a Female | Color preferred: |
Any color | Activity level: |
Couch Potato, Outgoing, Playful, Energetic, Other (Please describe in the box below.) |
Other preferences: |
As noted, kid-friendly is important to us. We understand the herding nature of corgis and are prepared for the training/education that is needed for both our dog and our daughters. We would potentially like to have more than one dog (potentially more than one corgi) so we would like a dog that enjoys others. We would consider a bonded pair.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Our family – Eric and Jocelyn and our two daughters
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We had a PWC, Sasquatch, for over 15 years. We adopted her from a rescue when she was nine months old and she was a beloved member of our family until we had to say goodbye a little before her 16th birthday. We love the big personality within the relatively small body. We also like the combination of good energy and intelligence, but also willing to curl up on the couch. We also are well aware of the strongheadedness, barking and shedding, and no issues on those fronts.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We have a gangway along the side of our house that is great for playing fetch, as well as a yard to play in. We love going on walks throughout the city, both around neighborhoods and to the lakefront. We would consider a dog park, but would be based on temperament. Our prior corgi was a little discerning when it came to other dogs (other than corgis).
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |
Yes Willing to do formal training? Yes |
||||||
Do you have a veterinarian? |
Yes | ||||||
Vet contact info: |
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
We would redirect if appropriate/needed. To the extent it was a mistake that we could try again in some way, we would do so and provide positive encouragement for doing it correctly.
Discipline: |
We do not believe in any physical form of discipline. With our prior corgi, we did have to handle some aggression early on in certain situations. In those worst case type scenarios, we would do a hold to prevent any injury to Sas or ourselves until she was able to calm down. In general we believe most behavior is the result of boredom or too much energy, so getting outside for exercise is another focus. We also believe in positive reinforcement. Whether toy/play or food motivated, we have had dogs that respond to both.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our dog would be inside the home, but generally with free range inside the home. We do believe in crate training for whenever no one would be home.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Yes. We have a full time nanny that is at home most of the day. We also both sometimes work from home.
Where would dog eat? |
Our prior dog had a dedicated area for her bowls near our kitchen/dining room. Unless there was a personality reason not to, we would expect the same for our next corgi.
Where would dog sleep: |
To be determined based on the corgi. We would expect the corgi to be in our bedroom with us, either in a crate or on a bed on the floor.
Play & exercise: |
We would do at least two neighborhood walks each day during the week, with longer walks/hikes on the weekends. We would also play outside in our yard whenever weather allowed. A decent amount of play and exercise would also come in the form of chasing our four year old around the house.
How will you exercise your dog? |
Both on leash and restrained to the yard
Fenced yard? |
Yes, I have a fenced in yard.
Willing to pick up dog waste? |
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.
Willing to use a crate? |
We live in a single family home on a typical Chicago lot. We have a small low-fenced area in the front area, but our dog would not be allowed out front unattended/off leash. We have a ~6 foot locked gate that connects the front area to the gangway the runs along the side of the house. We have a backyard that is around 25' square that is currently turfed, but that we plan to change to natural ground covering or grass. The yard is surrounded by a brick wall fence on one side and a wood/metal fence on the other side (both 4-5 feet tall) and the garage sits on the back end of the yard. The only way into the yard is through the garage, through the house, or through the locked front gate.
