Who is this dog for?

Jacqueline, primarily. But Daniel will have equal responsibilities as far as taking care of the Corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always had a strong desire to have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Over the years, friends have bought me corgi mugs, corgi calendars, and corgi socks, but I have yet to own a real-life corgi! I have two close friends with black-headed tri corgis, and I absolutely love the breed. They're friendly, energetic, and so loving. Ultimately, they're an awesome family dog. I have done a lot of research on the breed, particularly surrounding their temperament, their activity levels (varying), ability to be trained, etc. I've also done a lot of research on gender differences and how a male versus female may present.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My significant other and I are fairly active, overall. We live in Minnesota– so we enjoy being outside, biking, walking around the lakes nearby, and just hanging out in our backyard. My s/o LOVES going on walks multiple times a day, so the corgi would definitely get plenty of exercise. We have a good sized yard with plenty of space for a corgi to run around.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

No

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If the corgi were to make a mistake, I would view it as a learning opportunity or an area for growth, rather than condemning the dog as "good " or "bad." The mistake may signify that additional training and attention is needed. I would definitely consider what the dog is trying to accomplish by misbehaving, and would make sure not to reward him/her for the bad behavior. It could also be effective to redirect the dog towards another behavior and reinforce the dog when they do start engaging in a more positive behavior.

Discipline:
I would try to use reinforcement, primary. Positive reinforcement seems to be an effective way to deal with a dogs behavior. Making sure to reinforce the dog with treats, toys, and praise when they're exhibiting a desired behavior. I would ensure that my discipline doesn't present as dominance or intimidation. It would also be important to focus on being clear and consistent when redirecting the dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke would spent most of his/her time at our house in Minnesota. My s/o and I are able to be home during the day, so the dog would be able to spend ample time outdoors in our yard.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I have a fairly flexible job that allows me to work both from home and at an office. My s/o works as a neurological PT and his office is only 5 minutes away from our house– so he could easily come home, if needed.

Where would dog eat?
In our house, probably in the kitchen area.

Where would dog sleep:
I would likely set up a crate or a dog bed in one of the two free bedrooms in our home.

Play & exercise:
We would absolutely provide our corgi with opportunities for play and exercise. We will make sure to allocate several hours a day for play and exercise– whether that's in the mornings before work, or in the evening– and there will be more time for exercise and play during the weekends. There's also plenty of room in our house for the corgi to move around and play.
