Who is this dog for?

Kelsey and Chris (and their very playful 4 year old rescue Bengal cat Winnie)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have done quite a bit of research. We love how intelligent corgis are and their immense personality. We also like that they are typically active dogs and enjoy playtime. I grew up with a Bernese Mountain Dog and am experienced with the demands of a working dog. Our Bernese, Gabbie, was a heavy shedder and I am not worried about the notorious shedding of a corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Daily walks, playing at home, short hikes depending on the dog's activity level, obedience classes, dog social events when it is no longer a pandemic.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would vocally tell the Pembroke "no!" and then redirect the behavior to something more positive. I would then follow up with positive reinforcement for the good behavior using verbal praise.

Discipline:
Verbally alerting that the behavior is bad or inappropriate with a one word command such as "No" or "Bad". I think it is important to then redirect bad behaviors to good ones. It is equally important to reinforce good behaviors through verbal praise or treats (although sparingly!).

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Inside with access to the outdoors for playtime and walks.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Most of the time yes. My fiancé and I work staggered shifts which means there is typically only an hour or two a day when someone is not home.

Where would dog eat?
High quality AAFCO complaint kibble. We also would supplement with wet food.

Where would dog sleep:
It would be dependent on the corgi. We would likely allow them to sleep where they choose, but if better for the dog or managing their behavior we would have them sleep in their crate at night.

Play & exercise:
We would take the corgi on 1-2x daily walks. When not a pandemic, we would also take the dog to dog parks. We are also planning to install a fence around our 1/3 acre yard so that they would have ample room to safely play freely off leash.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
