Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
We would love to welcome a Pembroke Corgi to our family as a whole. Our Family includes myself, my partner Yesenia and our senior cat and a family cat who regularly visits our home. We both will take financial and care responsibilities. However, for vet or any other documentation purposes, Yesenia will be the primary owner and I as the secondary owner. -Jocelyn Gutierrez |
||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We are in love with the breed. Our neighbor has a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who is very friendly and very beautiful. I have also dog-sat a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and loved how affection he was. The reason we would like to adopt a PWC specifically is because we are moving into a 3 bedroom apartment, in a very lively neighborhood. A Pembroke would be the perfect dog for our lifestyle because its a medium dog on the smaller end that can still be very active. We also would prefer a rescue because we have, an adopted senior cat, and have seen how important rescue adoption is for mature or re-homed puppies. We understand that rescue dogs need a home because of human problems, and no fault of their own with so much to offer.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We live in a very lively neighborhood within the city of Chicago. The neighborhood offers multiple dog parks, many dog friendly outdoor restaurants, small festivals, and a community that loves dogs. Activities would consist of what ever the dog is comfortable with. Weather that be walking in the park, saying hello to everyone at a festival, or lounging in an outdoor restaurant. We would also take short drives to a near by forest preserves and the dog friendly beach. Overall we would love to share with our Pembroke Welsh Corgi as many fun activities as they are comfortable with.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
We understand that dogs make mistakes just like humans. Handling a mistake would depend on the action. First and foremost would be the dog's health, just like with our cats, contacting our veterinary is the best and most important resource. Making sure the mistake is not due to an underlying health condition. Secondly in this day and age online resources can be very helpful. Often many "mistakes" are very common or caused by human error. Thirdly, seeking professional help for mistakes or behaviors that need to be worked through training and practice.
Discipline: |
We believe positive reinforcement as well as using calm and consistent language is the best way to discipline a dog. This includes not rewarding bad behavior and celebrating good behavior. A firm "No" should be consistent with bad behavior every single time.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
Our PWC would spend most of their time with either of us at home. We are fortunate enough to have jobs that give us flexibility. We have signed a lease on a three bedroom apartment and do not intend on using a create, they'll be free to roam throughout the home. We also have a fenced in backyard where we can supervise our dog.

People at home during the day? |
Yes we work opposite schedules. As a barback/bartender Yesenia works night shifts and as a Sub teacher Jocelyn works in the day. If ever we are both busy our neighbor happens to be Yesenia's Mother who is retired and expresses enthusiasm in being a support system for our pets. We have multiple systems of support nearby if needed, and living in the city, we also have access to resources like Wag and Rover that can provide, background checked and trained, professionals if we need last minute arrangements in case of emergencies. Overall we have had discussions with our support systems and have done research to make sure we can provide a safe and stable environment for our rescue.
Where would dog eat? |
We understand that feeding time can get messy depending on each pet's eating habits. Our apartment does have carpet in the living room and bedrooms therefore we will most likely have our corgi's food available in the kitchen where clean ups will be much easier. If the dog has food anxiety and would prefer eating somewhere else we would definitely look into making accommodations as a secondary option.
Where would dog sleep: |
Our corgi will sleep where ever they are comfortable. Our cats often sleep in bed with us, the couch, their cat beds, or dining room chairs. We would give our dog the same freedom to sleep wherever they're comfortable, whether that's in bed with us every night or in their own bed.
Play & exercise: |
Our PWC will be exercised daily by going on walks and playing in the yard. We hope for our corgi to be well socialized by visiting dog parks and friends with dogs multiple times a week where they can play for long periods of time.
