Who is this dog for?

Myself and my girlfriend.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are undeniably beautiful and unique. We really love their size, form and traits. Corgis seem like they would mesh well with what we are looking for in a dog. We want a cuddly companion that will be a steadfast reliable friend who will appreciate doing anything and everything together. For myself personally, I would love to have a running buddy to take with me for runs by the water.

There's only so much that reading and watching videos about PW corgis will be able to tell us so we are aiming to meet as many corgis as we can up and till we are able to adopt one (late July 2021). We just met a corgi/Shepard mix over this last weekend and really loved the demeanor of the dog we met. He was inquisitive, calm, and had plenty of energy. If we didn't have travel plans during July we probably would have adopted him on the spot.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My girlfriend and I lead active lifestyles. Since we have transitioned to full time WFH situations, daily exercise has become even more important in our day to day. We enjoy running, biking and long walks and hope to enjoy exercising with a corgi. We also really enjoy the various lakes and parks across MN and would love to take the corgi with us on adventures. In addition, we plan to get formal obedience training and look into any recommended dog sports to participate in with the corgi.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
No yelling or abusive language. No physical punishment or crate confinement. Use of stern voice and hand commands with short simple keywords like "Off", "Down", "Wait" "Sit" to indicate that what the dog is doing is not acceptable.

Discipline:
Rewarding with treats or food for obeying commands successfully, lots of head rubs and pets for good behavior. Positive reinforcement of what is acceptable behavior and no rewards or treats for behavior we do not want repeated.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With us in the office during the workday and in the sectioned off area of the apartment that we are creating with dog gates/doors. The dog will have their own area starting from the entrance of our apartment through their crate area leading into our office den where we work so the dog has an area he/she can feel is entirely their own, but not completely separate from us.
