Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Maggie Fiddes | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have always been drawn to corgis, I have just always loved how they look. I have known a few people that owned corgis and always enjoyed spending time and playing with them. I prefer small to medium dogs that are not tiny dogs but also still small enough to really cuddle with and allow on furniture without them completely taking over so corgis are the ideal size for what I am looking for. I am looking for a companion so I like that corgis do tend to have energy and like to play so that I can have that fun interactive relationship with the dog. I have done some research on the breed but mostly have enjoyed corgis of friends and family and am hoping to have one of my own now that I've moved out and don't get to see my family dog (cocker spaniel) on a daily basis.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
Walks outside both in grassy areas and on paved walking trails. Trips to parks and dog parks. Potential companion to outdoor activities such as farmers markets if okay with socialization and other dogs around. Playing fetch inside and out. Dog puzzles and cognitive toys to keep them entertained. Snuggles.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |
Yes Willing to do formal training? Yes |
||||||
Do you have a veterinarian? |

{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If caught while making the mistake (ie having an accident, chewing on furniture) I would verbally state some variation of no to let the dog know the behavior was undesirable and provide an alternative such as taking the dog outside or replacing what they were chewing on with a toy or something acceptable to chew on to show them what would be a preferred behavior. If found later (ie finding an accident but not seeing when it happened) I would clean up or handle the mistake myself but not verbally or otherwise discipline the dog since I do not know when it occurred and the dog may not understand what it was being disciplined for.
Discipline: |
I generally prefer positive reinforcement to discipline and try to reinforce desirable behaviors to decrease undesirable behaviors. If discipline was necessary it may be time spent in the dog's kennel, especially if there was a mess or something that needed to be cleaned without the dog in the way, or some form of verbal discipline such as NO.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In my apartment with me. Would have access to the entirety of the apartment.

House dog or outside dog? |
House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Variable. I am home the majority of the day most days. I currently have 1 day a week where I have a full day of classes and other than that am gone for at most 4 hours at a time for class. My schedule does change on a semester schedule but in general, this should be true.
Where would dog eat? |
In my kitchen. | ||||||
Where would dog sleep: |
Most likely in a kennel in my living room. Potentially in my bed depending on the dog and how this impacts both of our sleep.
Play & exercise: |
Hope to play fetch both inside and outside. I have a lot of outdoor space at my apartment that could be used for quick trips to play and go potty. There is a park and walking trail within walking distance of my apartment I plan to utilize for the majority of play and exercise time as well as a dog park a short drive away. Dog would get to go on several short walks a day and one longer walk most days. Days spent at parks would likely replace a longer walk on those days.
How will you exercise your dog? |
On leash | ||||||
