 I'm single, have no children, live alone and have a permanent work from home job. I have a degree in Animal Management and worked in the shelter system for several years before getting into healthcare. I have 1 cat, who is good with gentle dogs. My lease allows me two pets, one of which can be a dog at least one year old, no more than 30 lbs, no more than 14 inches high at the shoulder. My landlord is aware that I'm looking for a dog ?

My cat has a chronic respiratory illness (which is not transferrable to dogs), and she hasn't been completely clear for a few years, so my vet recommended against renewing her vaccinations. I am not opposed to adopting a dog with a medical issue if is controllable or treatable.

I am gone on Saturdays and I plan to use doggy daycare on those days. I also hope to take my dog on playdates with friend's dogs and possibly to obedience classes if it would be beneficial. I am hoping to find an adult dog who is good with cats and other dogs and who is not an excessive barker (I live in an apartment, and though the soundproofing is excellent I don't wish to disturb my neighbors).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I've loved Corgi's ever since I read Tasha Tudor books as a child ? I have a close friend who had a corgi until it passed away a few years ago and it was a very sweet dog. We also had a few Corgi's pass through the shelter while I was working there (Sheboygan County Humane Society and Niagara SPCA), and they were all nice dogs. I am aware that Corgi's can be stubborn though!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Daily walks, trips to the pet store. Road tripping on Sundays up north. Possibly obedience classes.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Positive reinforcement. Reward positive behavior, ignore negative behavior.

Discipline:
 I don't think that discipline is effective. It's much better for the dog human relationship to reward positive behavior than to discipline for bad behavior. Besides which, bad behavior usually stems from excessive energy, fear, etc, so if you address the issue that's actually causing the issue then eventually the bad behavior should cease

 In my apartment, with me

 In a dog bed. I tend to thrash around and roll over a lot, so my cat doesn't sleep with me. It would most likely be the same with a dog

 Multiple walks. I walk in the morning, evening and on my lunch break.

 Yes, I have a dog gate with a cat door for my spare bedroom. I have used it when dogsitting to make introductions. I would also use Feliway for the cat. I would prefer to adopt a dog who is friendly with cats already though. My cat is unaggressive and would not defend herself if actually attacked by a dog. With the dogs she has met she basically just rolls over and let's them snuffle her all over.
