Who is this dog for?

companion dog for myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
a colleague of mine introduced me to her Corgi and I was in love. They are sweet, funny, packed with personality, and smart. i like that they are energetic but not known to be high strung. The size is perfect- low to the ground but not too small. i have purchased pets from breeders before, but as i have grown older, i have vowed to only adopt dogs from now on. i know that surrendered Corgis are hard to come by, so i will be patient. i am a foster dog volunteer and have yet to see one come through my group, so i though applying through a group dedicated solely to Corgis might be helpful. i have researched the breed, including personality, physical characteristics, and medical considerations and understand what is entailed in adopting one.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
fetch/other forms of play
walks
snuggles

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
if my dog were to put their paws on a guest or paw my leg at the dinner table, i would use the sit and stay commands.

Discipline:
if i caught my dog trying to urinate in the house, i call their name to stop them and say "potty outside" and then take him/her outside. then i use praise, treats, and consistent phrases to reinforce

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
at home with me. I work from home so my dogs have free roam of the house (as long as they aren't in a puppy chewing phase). i keep a crate open for if my dogs or fosters want alone time. historically, i crate dogs at night if they need confinement due to accidents or chewing or if the dog prefers a crate. I crated my Dalmation (deceased) when I was out of the house because she had separation anxiety. i also crate dogs in the car for safety.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
yes. I work from home

Where would dog eat?
in the kitchen. if there were feeding issues i would feed in separate rooms. (i fostered a large beagle mix for 15+ months who was food aggressive. i fed him separately in my bathroom for safety)

Where would dog sleep:
in my room either in a crate or a dog bed- whichever is the most appropriate

Play & exercise:
provide toys and balls
play with Rocky (my shih tzu mix)
fetch
walks

the level of play and exercise really depends on the age and personality of the dog. if she's a busy body, then toys that are mind puzzles are best. if they like soft squeakies or hard rubbery toys, then that's what we'll pick.

a tired dog is a good dog, and a balance of play and affection are important
