Who is this dog for?

My husband and I, after losing our beloved 13yo corgi this past May.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
As mentioned, we had a corgi from a puppy to 13, she was our first dog and just incredible. We want another corgi specifically because they are intelligent, playful, a mid level energy level, adaptable, , smaller size but not teeny tiny. Corgis feel like the perfect dog for us.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Training excersizes and puzzles to excersize their mind, long walks and hikes in nicer weather, tromps through the snow, lots of toy time in the home, socializing w other pet owners. We are committed to assuring our new pup is happy and healthy in both body and mind.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Stay calm and communicate clearly to the dog; course correct with more positive training if it’s something that needs to change long-term. If it’s a one-time oops…no big deal.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement with clear commands. Training from day one for both the dog and us! It’s a bond we’ll share and work on together.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our home. My husband works from home most days so the dog would not be left alone aside from a few hours here and there. We like to stay active so lots of playtime outside the home too.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes! See above. My husband works from home.

Where would dog eat?
We’d set up bowls in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
In their own bed in our bedroom where it’s quiet. We usually have two beds, one in the living room, should the dog want to sleep there. We like to offer dedicated dog spots rather than human spots for sleeping.

Play & exercise:
Multiple times a day- good long walks multiple times a day, park time at the park 2 blocks away, beach trips only 4 blocks away, we also love hiking when the weather is nice. Inside the home we like to offer puzzle/interactive toys, training time, and general fun time that’s less impact play 🙂

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We live in a small condo building with a fenced in courtyard. It’s rarely used except by us! We always used to bring our previous dog out there for supervised off-leash play. (We’d never leave a dog out there unattended)

Living arrangements:
Own home

No, the condo covenants do not prevent me from having a dog.

Breed/size restrictions?
No

Description of yard:

We have a shared fenced in yard. A portion of the ground is grass and a portion is concrete. It’s L shaped with all on two sides, and a chain link fence and back gate/door on the other two. It’s basic but nice and quiet! The back gate door leads to the alleyway.

We have encountered this problem before and we’re able to overcome issues that presented while keeping all pets happy and healthy.
