Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke would be for both Annette and Dale though they will both admit that Annette is the primary human who will interact with and care for the dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Our last dog was a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We adopted her when she was nine years old. Her Petfinder entry stated that she had been loved all her life but needed to be rehomed because her owner needed to move. Tilly was nine years old when she came to live with us. She was with us for a little more than five years and we can assert that Tilly was loved ALL her life. We could trust her to be friends with every human she came in contact with. We were somewhat shocked that she did not particularly like other dogs, but once we realized that she was showing us her herding instinct, we took care not to allow any problems to occur.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Our dog would get at minimum two leash walks per day. We have a fenced yard so we could play fetch if the dog enjoyed that. We have a pool, so the dog could come in swimming with us if it enjoyed the water. Our rescued Pembroke did not like the water, so she got to lounge poolside. Our Pembroke enjoyed car rides and a new Pembroke would be welcomed to ride with us. We had no objections to having to vacuum dog hair. (We know that Pembrokes are major shedders. Previously, we had Labrador Retrievers and it is quite possible that our Pembroke out-shed our Labradors.) Our Pembroke had a harness that clicked into the seat belt connector to keep her and us safe.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I try to use positive reinforcement whenever possible. For example, when we were out walking and Tilly would bark at other dogs walking toward us, I would get her to sit and take small treats until the other dog was past. I would also about face with her till she settled and about face again and attempt to proceed as many times as necessary. If the mistake was a potty mistake, I would make sure I had a regular schedule to allow the dog outside and be sure to praise and treat the dog when potty was done outside.

Discipline:
I use positive reinforcement. I would keep a dog close to me with a leash. I praise and give small treats.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our Pembroke would spend her time as near us as she wanted. We have no problem with allowing dogs on furniture. Our dogs sleep in our bedroom at night on our bed if they want. We have dog beds if the dog prefers her own space on the floor.
