Who is this dog for?

Family dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We need a smaller yet active dog that is confident and outgoing. We want a dog that is good with a family. My youngest child is 9 and they don’t run around lien they used to so I don’t think they would be at risk for being herded by a corgi. We believe that our first dog was part corgi and her loyal loving spirit made her a beloved pet.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking, playing fetch, my oldest has been training our current dog in Treiball so I’m sure any new dog would be included in this, she has also been working on basic agility with hurdles and hoops, a new dog in our family would spend time playing with our dog. We would also like a dog that likes to snuggle on the couch with us.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I’m not sure what is meant by mistake. Our current rescue has struggled with house training. We kept him on a leash in the house for awhile and tried rushing him outside if we saw him getting ready to relieve himself. We praised when he peed or pooped outside. Took him out frequently and keep him in a crate when we are not home. He has greatly improved. He often tries to chew things up. We keep doors closed to rooms we aren’t in so he has less opportunity to be unsupervised, provide lots of chew toys, take him for walks, play with him and provide training. He bit our pet sitter because he is somewhat fearful of people especially when we were not home. We have engaged a dog behaviorist and consulted with our vet as well as worked with our pet sitters to resolve his fear.

Discipline:
Primarily as far as discipline we use removal. For example if my dog is mouthing me I simply remove myself from him for a short time so that he knows that behavior does not get attention.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house with the family. While we are gone the dog would be crated. I work part time about 20 hours per week. There is almost always someone home from about 3 on. We bring our dog with us when traveling whenever possible.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
4 days a week there is someone home during the day.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen. We would plan to feed our dogs separately. Either using a baby gate or feeding one in the kitchen and one in another room.

Where would dog sleep:
Most likely with one of my daughters.

Play & exercise:
Our current dog takes 1-2 longer walks per day approximately a mile. If it is a day I’m home the long walk could be 3-4 miles. A new dog would play with our current dog. We recently fostered a dog and both dogs were worn out by the end of the day.

Current pets dog friendly?

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
I answered no to the above only because these pets do not and will not interact with our dogs. Our Guinea pig is the only concern. We love corgis but understand they have a prey drive. We have our Guinea pig cage up in a table. However, because we do have this Guinea pig we would only be interested in smaller corgis. One at the top of the size range might not work for us.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Return to Lakeshore if unable to care for Pembroke?
Yes, I will only surrender my adopted corgi to LPWCR if I am unable to care for it.

Understand no guarantees?

Yes, I understand that there are no guarantees regarding the condition, health, behavior or personality of the Pembroke I adopt.

Yes, I have carefully thought out my decision to adopt a Pembroke and am willing to deal with the consequences.
