Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgi's are the most loyal and family, loving dogs. I currently own a tri-colored corgi who is about to be 2 years old and he loves making new corgi friends at the park. Kodi takes a big liking to other male corgis and I would love for him to share that friendship with another corgi. I have done extensive research on corgis before I got Kodi and he is very well trained and super cute!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We love taking walks to the Navy Pier park and playing fetch. He enjoys the beach and swimming as well as playing with his best friend Kobe, a black lab. He also enjoys biking with me in his little backpack down lake shore drive – the attention and wind on his face are his favorite things in the world! With my Pembroke, I would want to give him the life that he deserves and to share it with me and Kodi.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
First, it depends on the severity and level of mistake. I currently have Kodi trained to understand the meaning of "no." Therefore, after the mistake dogs do not have long-term memory so the goal would be to train him regarding the mistake he made. For example, let's say a new guest comes into the house and he starts jumping on her and yanks at the person's clothing causing damage. The first response would be to immediately call the dog back to heel next to me. Upon breaking the command when I tell him too, I would continue to train with him for when someone comes into the house, he would receive positive reinforcement every time he came and "heeled" next to me and waiting to get my permission before greeting the person. Shaping behavior is key to fixing a mistake not yelling and making the dog anxious/excited.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement is needed to overcome the mistake the dog is being disciplined for. Getting to know the dog and discovering how they are best responsive is key to disciplining a dog. For example, some dogs are food motivated (most corgis are) and others can be activity or toy motivated so using this is a good way to discipline than harsher methods.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me in Chicago. There are times where I go to visit my family in Indiana so there would be periods of time he would be with my family altogether.

House dog or outside dog?

Outside dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, I work from home.

Where would dog eat?
I have an area that I use for my corgi to eat currently.

Where would dog sleep:
It depends on how I feel my corgi would like to sleep and his behavior. If he prefers the kennel, his dog bed, or my bed I would be okay with either of those options. However, in order to keep him comfortable in the kennel and continue positive association with it, I encourage them sleeping in there every now and then.

Play & exercise:
I workout every morning and will take my dogs to the park and then after I finish work, so they will go a total of two times a day. When the weather isn't as good, I typically will have play dates with my friends who also have dogs. Corgis are high energy dogs and I love to be active so depending on the dogs behavior and energy I will adjust accordingly.
