 I have always had herding dogs and love the way they think. They are always interested in the world around them and very active. Our dogs are part of our family and go where we go and do what we do. We have had Belgians and Shelties.

 It is for my 14 yr old neice.

 This dog would be for my 14 yr old niece. She has however had a dog but has been asking for a Corgi s8nce she was 6. We have tried to get her another dog but she only wants a Corgi. She loves the way they look and thinks thier short legs are so cute.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We want to adopt a corgi because we believe there are already enough dogs in need of homes we could never think to buy from a breeder.  We currently have 2 adult male cats in the home — any new animal must be able to get along with cats. I understand that corgis are natural herders and I'm sure there will be some tendencies to move our cats into groups, but we cannot tolerate any aggressive or overly dominant traits.  Our corgi would be a family dog (we have no children but plan to within the next year) but would really be for me (Carrie) … I have loved Corgis since I was a child!

 We simply love the breed — they are the happiest looking dogs on the planet! With their smaller size and loyal temperament, we think one (or several) would make a great addition to our home. While we have never owned a corgi before, we have done research on the breed and have friends who own them.

We believe in firm patience, knowing that a dog is likely to make mistakes and forgiving them while correcting the behavior as soon as possible either through distraction (toys to prevent chewing for example) or through food motivation. We would invest in training for the dog not only for its overall well being but to guide us as new owners.

 We have not previously owned dogs (as adults) so do not have established methods of discipline, but we would follow best practices of the trainer and other dog owners we know.

 At the moment, yes — we are currently working remotely through most of September due to COVID-19. While we anticipate returning to the office in the fall, both of us have flexible schedules and can be home as needed.

 We have a few available places on the main floor of our house, either in the kitchen area or the laundry/mudroom. Our main concern would be to feed the dog and cats separately to establish safe feeding spaces for both animals until they fully get along. Currently, the cats eat in the basement.

 Our corgi would be welcome to sleep anywhere really, but we would encourage him/her to sleep in their crate in the beginning, to help them get used to their new environment and provide a safe space. They are welcome to sleep with us, but it gets quite hot upstairs in the summer!

Play & exercise:
 We understand that corgis need a good amount of exercise to keep from becoming destructive in the house, so we would take nice long walks (at least 45 minutes) both morning and evening. Walks would likely be split into shifts (Carrie walks in the morning, Ron walks in the evening) to account for our work schedules. If our dog needs to be left alone during the day, we would leave plenty of chew toys, food and water to help occupy them until we return.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We would love to adopt a corgi. We have loved the breed for years because of their intelligence and size, and have more recently done research to confirm that it’s a breed we are interested in. We also have two coworkers who have adopted corgi puppies, however we would love to give an adult dog a forever home. We are in a condo with some outdoor space and will be working from home , so a small/medium sized dog would be perfect.
