Who is this dog for?

Soumith (Me)

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt one because they are one of the most beautiful breeds of dogs. All my experiences with other owners' corgis in the past have been very good as they are super friendly and seemed well trained. I love that the Pembroke is an intelligent breed because it means that they are more easily trained. I love that they are super fluffy and I love browsing pictures of corgis in my spare time because I simply think they're some of the cutest dogs. I understand that they have herding and bossy behavior but that does not turn me away from them as I feel that I would be able to have a soft but stern voice with my Pembroke.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would take it on walks and runs around the neighborhood. Ideally my Pembroke would be by my side wherever I go, whether it be just around the neighborhood or on drives. It would never be alone. I love going to the park and to the local beaches so I would love to take my Pembroke there as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would try my best to show it the right thing to do. Pembrokes are intelligent so I believe that they will be able to learn from their mistakes. I would train it to know what's right and what's not and if the behavior is repetitive I would enroll in a class to train it.

Discipline:
I would guide the dog to show it what's acceptable and what's not. Or I would try not to feed into its excitement by not responding right away or react overtly. If these techniques don't work I would consult a trainer to see the best course of action to take.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
It would be within the house property, inside most of the time except for walks and exercising.

Who is this dog for?

Hi! We are two 30-year-olds who just celebrated our 10-year anniversary. We live in Hyde Park, Chicago. We have no other pets and don't live with children. We're looking for a friendly, playful dog who loves being around people and taking walks around the park.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis need a lot of attention and I can provide a ton of attention. When I interact with a dog I tend to get so excited and give the dog so much attention that sometimes the dog thinks it's weird. I love how Corgis are friendly and immediately flop over for a belly rub at the slightest suggestion. I would prefer a dog with a soft temperament. I think fluffies are adorable but have minor allergies and would prefer a dog that sheds less rather than more. I am aware that hip and eye problems are not uncommon among Corgis and can appear at any age.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Going on walks in the park, walking around downtown Chicago, riding the bus, hanging out at my office, belly rubs, sitting on the couch together, meeting other dogs, doing whatever the dog wants to do

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If my Corgi makes a mistake, I would temporarily relinquish attention to indicate what a bad behavior is. No yelling or physical intimidation. Reward good behaviors with treats and praise.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement training plus vigorous exercise an hour every day.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At my office or in our apartment, with some outdoor time.

In the kitchen of our apartment.

Where would dog sleep:
My Corgi would sleep in a crate at first.

Since we have a corgi already, and love this breed, we would prefer they not be the same age…..we have a 9 mo. old puppy female. With us both being retired we have plenty of time to spend with dogs. We would like our new adopted dog to be child friendly, as we have 6 grandkids who love to play with our current corgi.

Who is this dog for?

This corgi would be for me & my husband. We are both retired, early sixties, and our home has a nice yard . We have a corgi puppy (9 mo) and would like another for a companion for us all.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love this breed. Loving, affectionate and intelligent. We love that they enjoy people and activity. We inherited my parents corgi at age 7 when they both passed away, and had her for 7 years until she passed at 14. We love these little characters…..they are so funny. We did research for my parents years ago before we got one for them. They really enjoyed her…..she ran all over their farm.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We love to hike and do other outdoor activities and take our current dog with us nearly everywhere. We winter in Florida so our dog does also. We love to boat and we be with our grandchildren and families.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke would be cared for by both Noah and Melanie. We are passionate about the breed and feel our lifestyles would be very accommodating.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love the personality of larger dogs, but living in an apartment it is important that we do not get a dog too large! Close friends of ours have Pembroke's and that is what really introduced us into their loving personalities. The two of us live very complimentary lives to the needs of a Pembroke as well, as we both are often home and enjoy spending time outside. We also have a backyard as well to ensure there is time to spend running outside!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would like to go on walks, and jogs. Also, Melanie's sisters pug lives down the street so it would be great for them to play together. Dog parks are nearby as well to get more socialization in. On rainier days, and late nights we look forward to snuggles and learning new tricks inside!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would show disappointment by pointing and firmly saying "No, that is not ok." If it was a repeated issue I would definitely reach out to the teacher of the pet classes we would plan on taking.

Discipline:
Talking firmly, and correcting actions from the beginning, not waiting to do so.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the apartment as well as in the backyard!

Play & exercise:
We are both very playful and would like to teach games in the apartment. Melanie's sister has a pug who lives down the street who would love a new friend. There are local dog parks we would like to attend after first assessing that all the dogs there seem friendly. Noah is a avid runner who could use a companion on the routes and Melanie and Noah both enjoy walks so the Pembroke would join in on those too!

Who is this dog for?

It is for me and my family. My family consists of 3 adults, one kid, and a guinea pig. We want the dog to be part of our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have been wanting to adopt a dog for over a year now and so I have been doing my research to find the breed that I think is the best one for me and I am sure that the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the perfect fit for me. I love that they have the best of both worlds, they are a medium-size dog that can adapt easily to different environments which is great because they are not as hard to take care as it will be with a bigger breed, but their size do not stop them. They have the energy and personality of a big dog which is what I was looking for too. I want a dog that is intelligent, sweet and that likes to play but I also wanted a dog that was not too big or too little, so that was also what attracted me to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
So I have been doing my research for the last couple of months, I know about their coat and that they shed seasonally, which is not a problem for me. I also know about all the genetic diseases that they can have, which is why I am looking for a healthy corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would like to cuddle and watch movies, go to a dog park, leash walks, and going for runs. I also want to do a lot of activities inside the house with the dog.

Who is this dog for?

Us! I have always dreamed of having a corgi, but I only like to rescue I do not go to breeders.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always had such a big love for any and all dogs but I’ve always wanted a corgi. I think they are such a great size, and I of course think they are all just so adorable. I love the personality traits most have, the active, happy, energetic, and sassy most of them are.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I’d love a dog that would like doing anything! From long walks, hanging out on a brewery patio, kayaking, going to a cabin, etc. But it all depends on the dog and their comfort level.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I think the most important training is rewarding good behavior. At the previous rescue I volunteered at we would say “yes” and give the dog a small treat. However if the dog makes a mistake, I believe the best would be to just show the dog what he or she should do. So if the dog had an accident in the house, simply show the dog the accident, and then take the dog outside so he or she understands that’s where they should go.

Discipline:
Really the only discipline I use is just telling the dog no and showing the dog what is right. I don’t believe in shock collars or hitting a dog. Depending on the level of training the dog may need and if he or she is having trouble listening and following what should be done I would want to seek a trainer for help.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Anywhere in the house he or she would like. Tyler works from home almost every day. If anything he may have a meeting to go to or something. That being said, the dog won’t have to be home alone very much at all. I am not a fan of putting a dog in a cage all day. If anything, maybe closing all the bedroom doors while we are gone and letting he or she have the whole living room and kitchen areas.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes as I stated, Tyler works from home 90% of the time. I work 5 minutes from home so if he is gone I am very flexible at work and can come home multiple times in a day to check on/ let him or her out. And I work 9-5 4-5 days a week.

Where would dog eat?
I like to put a lot of research in the foods I buy. Purchasing dog food is scary, with all the recalls and horrible stuff that has happened. I like to stick with an all natural made in the USA food usually. However, all dogs are different so I would have to try a few different foods to make sure the dog liked the food.

Where would dog sleep:
Anywhere he or she is comfortable. I will provide a nice dog bed, but the dog can also sleep in bed with us, or on the couch, or in the spare room. I do not like putting a dog in a crate at night.

Play & exercise:
We already go for a walk every single day the two of us. So at the minimum, a walk every day. On the weekends we are active as well, so if the dog likes other dogs we can go somewhere for him or her to play with other dogs. We also visit my parents every few weekends or so and they have an acre fenced in to run around. If the dog likes water, go to the beach or kayak or a pool.

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I would like to adopt a corgi because of their looks and temperament. My friends have had corgis and I have always enjoyed taking them on walks and to the park. I enjoy the history of the breed being herding dogs and feel that that makes them great companions. My favorite thing about their looks is their cute little legs.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go for walks, take them to the dog park, teach them tricks, and play fetch with them.
