Walks, country drives, socialization with other dogs as well as people.

Who is this dog for?

Us! I have always dreamed of having a corgi, but I only like to rescue I do not go to breeders.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always had such a big love for any and all dogs but I’ve always wanted a corgi. I think they are such a great size, and I of course think they are all just so adorable. I love the personality traits most have, the active, happy, energetic, and sassy most of them are.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I’d love a dog that would like doing anything! From long walks, hanging out on a brewery patio, kayaking, going to a cabin, etc. But it all depends on the dog and their comfort level.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?

Money for basic care?

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I think the most important training is rewarding good behavior. At the previous rescue I volunteered at we would say “yes” and give the dog a small treat. However if the dog makes a mistake, I believe the best would be to just show the dog what he or she should do. So if the dog had an accident in the house, simply show the dog the accident, and then take the dog outside so he or she understands that’s where they should go.

Discipline:
Really the only discipline I use is just telling the dog no and showing the dog what is right. I don’t believe in shock collars or hitting a dog. Depending on the level of training the dog may need and if he or she is having trouble listening and following what should be done I would want to seek a trainer for help.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Anywhere in the house he or she would like. Tyler works from home almost every day. If anything he may have a meeting to go to or something. That being said, the dog won’t have to be home alone very much at all. I am not a fan of putting a dog in a cage all day. If anything, maybe closing all the bedroom doors while we are gone and letting he or she have the whole living room and kitchen areas.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes as I stated, Tyler works from home 90% of the time. I work 5 minutes from home so if he is gone I am very flexible at work and can come home multiple times in a day to check on/ let him or her out. And I work 9-5 4-5 days a week.

Where would dog eat?
I like to put a lot of research in the foods I buy. Purchasing dog food is scary, with all the recalls and horrible stuff that has happened. I like to stick with an all natural made in the USA food usually. However, all dogs are different so I would have to try a few different foods to make sure the dog liked the food.

Where would dog sleep:
Anywhere he or she is comfortable. I will provide a nice dog bed, but the dog can also sleep in bed with us, or on the couch, or in the spare room. I do not like putting a dog in a crate at night.

Play & exercise:
We already go for a walk every single day the two of us. So at the minimum, a walk every day. On the weekends we are active as well, so if the dog likes other dogs we can go somewhere for him or her to play with other dogs. We also visit my parents every few weekends or so and they have an acre fenced in to run around. If the dog likes water, go to the beach or kayak or a pool.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Description of yard:

We are in an apartment at the moment that does not allow dogs in our building. However, we are beginning to start the process of moving out in July. We are looking into buying a house. If we do not buy a house, we are absolutely moving to a different apartment. We are only looking at apartments that allow dogs, and most we looked at have dog parks at the complex as well.

No one is allergic.

Yes I will do whatever it takes to make the transition comfortable. We do not have any current pets but if we decide to get another pet we will make sure to do whatever it takes to make them comfortable with eachother and make sure they meet and like eachother before going through with anything.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I'm not looking to adopt another dog until 2022+, so I just want my application and approved (if possible and if I'm qualified). My 4-5 yr old Huskimo, Jax (25lb) is very calm indoor and is active when he's outside. A corgi similar would be ideal. I've been following disapproval corgis on Facebook and really like how they have a human personality. I would like a dog that is a quick learner and retains positive reinforcement training. Jax can be a bit anti-social with human (used to be reactive before his Board and training program). Having another dog in the house may give him that confidence to trust in people. I work normal 8-12pm, 1-5pm and hope to find another companion for Jax and I. I do come home during lunch break to walk my dog and feed them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I like to go out for walks in the neighborhood. I also like to bring Jax and future Corgi to parks where they can run around in their 15ft long leash since I don't (and won't) have a fenced backyard. Jax doesn't play with toys but maybe corgi will. I basically take my dog(s) everywhere with me, except when I work or when I have to go out and grab something quick.

People at home during the day?
Now yes with a good friend as roommate but I'm not planning to adopt until 2022 so I may or may not have the same friend living with me. It will be either with her or just myself .

Where would dog eat?
in the living room. the dogs will have separate food&water bowls.

Where would dog sleep:
In my room with Jax. In their crate. I also do not mind if it rather sleeps with me instead of a crate.

Play & exercise:
In the summer and fall, I like to take my dog(s) to an open field to play for an hour and walks (another 1 hour total each day). During winter if it's snowing bad, most likely walks around the block. Also play with him at the house (while Jax watch, he doesnt like to play with toys). If stairs are a problem due to their legs, I'm happy to hold him until we get to the ground. My apartment is a unit, but in general it is a building and I usually prefer 1st and 2nd floor.

How will you exercise your dog?
On leash

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?

Who is this dog for?

Jacqueline, primarily. But Daniel will have equal responsibilities as far as taking care of the Corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have always had a strong desire to have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Over the years, friends have bought me corgi mugs, corgi calendars, and corgi socks, but I have yet to own a real-life corgi! I have two close friends with black-headed tri corgis, and I absolutely love the breed. They're friendly, energetic, and so loving. Ultimately, they're an awesome family dog. I have done a lot of research on the breed, particularly surrounding their temperament, their activity levels (varying), ability to be trained, etc. I've also done a lot of research on gender differences and how a male versus female may present.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My significant other and I are fairly active, overall. We live in Minnesota– so we enjoy being outside, biking, walking around the lakes nearby, and just hanging out in our backyard. My s/o LOVES going on walks multiple times a day, so the corgi would definitely get plenty of exercise. We have a good sized yard with plenty of space for a corgi to run around.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If the corgi were to make a mistake, I would view it as a learning opportunity or an area for growth, rather than condemning the dog as "good " or "bad." The mistake may signify that additional training and attention is needed. I would definitely consider what the dog is trying to accomplish by misbehaving, and would make sure not to reward him/her for the bad behavior. It could also be effective to redirect the dog towards another behavior and reinforce the dog when they do start engaging in a more positive behavior.

Discipline:
I would try to use reinforcement, primary. Positive reinforcement seems to be an effective way to deal with a dogs behavior. Making sure to reinforce the dog with treats, toys, and praise when they're exhibiting a desired behavior. I would ensure that my discipline doesn't present as dominance or intimidation. It would also be important to focus on being clear and consistent when redirecting the dog.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke would spent most of his/her time at our house in Minnesota. My s/o and I are able to be home during the day, so the dog would be able to spend ample time outdoors in our yard.

People at home during the day?
I have a fairly flexible job that allows me to work both from home and at an office. My s/o works as a neurological PT and his office is only 5 minutes away from our house– so he could easily come home, if needed.

Where would dog eat?
In our house, probably in the kitchen area.

Where would dog sleep:
I would likely set up a crate or a dog bed in one of the two free bedrooms in our home.

Play & exercise:
We would absolutely provide our corgi with opportunities for play and exercise. We will make sure to allocate several hours a day for play and exercise– whether that's in the mornings before work, or in the evening– and there will be more time for exercise and play during the weekends. There's also plenty of room in our house for the corgi to move around and play.

Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke is for Trevor and Claireesa to have as a pet.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We want a corgi because we have loved the energy and cuddle level of every corgi we have met. We love their small/medium size, the playful energy, and how they will spend time relaxing and sitting on the couch with us. We have done research on several sites on costs, exercise, appropriate toys, if a Corgi is right for us, etc. We've done this research on AKC and PWACC, along with talking with Corgi owners on various Corgi Facebook groups.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walks around our neighborhood, play at our local dog park in the appropriate size section, play with squeaky toys, training and mind-stimulating games, we have a food search matt that we hide food in so our dog can sniff around a find the food.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Say "No" if caught in the act and calmly show the dog what I want him/her to do. If not caught in the act, I would pay close attention to the dog to try and see if they do the behavior again. At that point I would again say "no" sternly and calmly redirect the behavior. I would stay consistent with the dog and praise him/her when they do the right things.

Discipline:
Mostly positive (treats and praise) when they are doing the right things. For disciple, I usually just say "no", and show my dog what to do. Examples of this are when my dog has an accident in the house, I point and say "no" then I take her outside. If she is jumping on me I say "no" then gently move her legs back to the ground. I then praise her when she is not jumping on me or someone else. I also give her treats when she uses the bathroom outside. When she avoids barking or jumping when she sees/hears things she would normally react to I give her praise and pets.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My current dog has a free range of our sunroom, halls, and dining room space when we are not directly around, if we are in our room/living room she then has access to those two areas. At night time our dog sleeps in her crate. If we are expecting to be gone for long hours, we take her to our cousins house where she spends time in their full basement. Our new dog would have those same rights/freedoms.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: My current dog has a free range of our sunroom, halls, and dining room space when we are not directly around, if we are in our room/living room she then has access to those two areas. At night time our dog sleeps in her crate. If we are expecting to be gone for long hours, we take her to our cousins house where she spends time in their full basement. Our new dog would have those same rights/freedoms.

Play & exercise:
We have a basket of toys in the sunroom that's accessible to the dog at all times. The corgi would be able to play with those and with our other dog any time (except at bedtime). We also spend time throughout the day playing fetch and tug of war with our current dog and would do the same with the corgi. Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
The PWCs are adorable and have good dispositions. I have not been around them a lot but I have researched online and they seem like they will fit my needs. I live in a condo and need a dog less than 40 pounds. They are smart and would be good companions.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking, playing in the park, visiting my friends. I hope the dog would be good in the car and can go with me to see friends and family.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would try to diagnose the problem and if it is something about the environment,
I would try to adjust the home or the situation so it doesn't bother the dog. If it is something the dog can learn I would work on training it by rewarding with treats for the correct behavior.

Discipline:
A loud NO with a palm up would be my first approach. Putting the dog in a crate for a while would be another option. I think if you train a dog properly you can learn non-hurtful ways of disciplining it.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me in my 2-bedroom condo. I would make sure we both get outside for walks!

Just me.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen under the table.

Where would dog sleep:
Either in a crate or in a dog bed in my living room.

Play & exercise:
I would make play dates with my friends who also own dogs. I would walk it 3-5 times a day and at least one of the walks would include playing with a ball in the park near my house. I would go to relatives' houses where there are big yards so it can run around more. There are also dog parks near me and I would go there on the weekends after they open up (currently not allowed because of coronavirus).
