 This pembroke is for myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 For many years now, I have been attracted to the cute nature of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I believe that its smaller size make it the perfect dog to live with me in an apartment, but its high energy and temperament make it perfect to keep up with my active lifestyle. I love the breed's outgoing nature and intellect. As someone who wants a dog that would like to participate in games and activities, I believe the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the perfect dog for me. I have had no prior experience with the breed except for extensive research on best ways to get the Corgi entertained, best forms of exercise and activity, how to maintain a Corgi in an apartment, and lastly how to train a Corgi.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Since I live in Colorado, the kinds of activities I would love to do with my Pembroke would be hiking, going swimming, going on long walks, playing in the dog park, playing fetch, taking the dog on bike rides when possible, and other fun games we can play together.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If the Corgi has made a mistake I would calmly but firmly say "No" and make a clearly disappointed face. This is to show the dog that their behavior is wrong and not to do it again. This may take several times until the dog is fully trained.

 The methods of discipline I would use are using my voice to show the dog that they have made a mistake, time-outs, and not giving attention to the dog when they behave badly.

 Me. Single adult with plenty of room. Backyard and a nice deck. I had a mini
Dacshund for 16.5 years and he passed away 2 years ago. I am looking for a new buddy. I work from home, so have the time to spend with a new pup.

 I love the breed. Had a dachshund for 16.5 years. Love short long dogs who are full of personality. I have several friends who have Corgis and have done a lot of research. I would prefer to provide a home for a dog that needs rescuing as opposed to going to a breeder.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have adored corgis, mostly from afar, for years. Obviously, they are absolutely adorable, but I love their big personalities and their love of attention (I spend a lot of time with our dog and 3 cats). Their corgi butt wiggle is just so cute! We are not planning to have children but we do want pets for the rest of our lives. I have spent time learning about corgis and researching how to raise a corgi, but will need to learn more (especially from the perspective of potentially rescuing and adopting a corgi)

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We are moving into our first home next month which has a nice size yard for dogs to play! We could get it a little pool, if it likes water. We get Bark Box every month so there are always toys to play with. We love to go on long walks and travel (road trips only) with our dog. If it's a social dog then we would go to dog parks and beaches to play with other dogs. If it's a high energy dog then I would take them to trainings (obedience, fitness, agility, etc.). My partner works from home so our pets are almost always with someone. There would be lots of snuggling and cuddling! (As long as the dog is into that.)

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		We learned through training our dog to pick a sound (something other than "no") to signal them not do to something (we use an "uh-uh" sound). We then redirect to the correct behavior (for example, don't shame a dog for peeing inside, but take them outside) and then reward good behavior (typically with a treat or "good dog" language). Our dog hasn't always been good motivated, but we are familiar with the clicker/treat method.

 Same as above, but on walks we say "leave it" to redirect our dog's attention. That took time to develop and training takes a lot of patience. I do use the leash and harness (no collar) to slightly adjust her movement, but never pull harder than a light tug and never, ever hurt our dog. We haven't had to use any other methods for discipline besides that and I would need to do more research specific to corgis.

 We do not want children, but will teach our young niece or any other child how to treat animals safely and with care and respect. We do not bring our dog around children unless we know the child is good with animals and the parent/guardian is there to supervise and help the child. You can absolutely work with/teach children to care for animals, but there needs to be multiple check in points before a child interacts with one of our pets. We never let a child approach our pets (especially our dog who thinks children between 1-4 years old are small dogs) without permission and supervision and then we instruct the child on how to safely approach the dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I’ve had friends with corgies and love their friendly nature. I have had many dogs in my adult life: 3 Kuvasz, a corgi-beagle mix (sweetest dog ever), and a “Detroit Special” lab mix foster fail, who was a great running partner and had issues with food aggression that I had to learn to manage.

My first Kuvasz was certified as a therapy dog through the Therapet program of The Humane Society of Huron Valley in Ann Arbor in 1995-1996. The program is now called something different (it was new then). We visited patients in two local nursing homes together. It was awesome!


Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Lots of walks, some light train running, paddle board and boat rides, car trips, and what I call “Kitty Olympics,” which entails chasing the cat, being chased by the cat, and enjoying lots of treats and toys together.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Redirection and Positive reinforcement. Containment away from the trouble source has been the most effective for me — usually if the dog gets in trouble, it’s because I left a closet door open or set my sandwich down where it became a fair steal.

Who is this dog for?

 The Corgi would be for me & my husband. We had 4 Corgis at one time(plus 3 puppies) that lived to be 12-13 years old. Recently, our Rottweiler, Zoey, passed and we have a rescue Blue tick mix who is lost without her companion. We were hoping to find a Corgi friend for her.

 I had 4 PWC’s at one time, plus 3 puppies and dearly loved them. The 4 I owned lived to be 12-13 years old. They were wonderful, well cared for dogs.
