Who is this dog for?

Haley/Joshua

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Joshua has lived with a corgi for about 6 years and moved out of his roomate's house. (roommates dog) He loved her personality. This breed is also a perfect size to fit into our family. I enjoy their spunk and their sillyness. I also enjoy how social they are.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
With our two dogs now we kayak, hike, walks, play ball, and they often come to the clinic with me. They also go with us to the neighbors house to play with their Shepards. Our dogs are more our kids than our pets. They rule the house and I am wrapped around their paw. Melo the cattle dog has gone through 6 weeks of obedience classes and I used to be a dog trainer at my last job working for a shelter. Iv ran my own puppy classes and have a lot of experience with dogs.

Who is this dog for?

Me and my fiance!!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My cousin has a Corgi names Elvis and he is just the sweetest silly dog I have ever met. Ever since I met Elvis I have been in love with Corgis. I love how playful Corgis are and how loving they are. I have never met a mean Corgi. I have also worked with many Corgis at Petsmart grooming. I can cut and grind nails, clean ears, give them a bath, shave hair in between paw pads if over grown or needed, clean teeth, and empty out their anal glands if needed.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I work from home so i can walk the dog as many times as possible throughout the day! Also we are very active and like to go hiking or to the beach and be outdoors and we would love to have a dog join us.

Who is this dog for?

For both of us, we currently have a Pembroke corgi and would love to have another but want to rescue one instead of buying one from a breeder. Our current dog has grown up around other dogs and puppies and had two cats as well that he loved, and one sadly passed away that was his best friend and baby that he took care of. We think he would do great with another animal but our current roommate is allergic to cats.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love Corgis as we already have one. We think he is a very smart dog who is empathetic , funny and a wild card on whether he wants to be lazy one day and cuddle on the couch or go for two or three walks and still have the energy to play with his toys. We know they experience back and hip problems so we have tried to properly exercise and have gotten furniture that is lower to the ground so he can still hang out with us but not strain himself. We have done basic training with him and while he knows what to do he is very cheeky about whether or not he wants to do what he's told and we love him for it because he's smart.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Basic obedience training, playing, walking and lake time. Getting them socialized with our dog and others in our life and making sure they have the best life possible even if we get them as a puppy or as an older dog. We take our current dog to a good vet that has experience with corgis and has helped us fine tune what we can to make our current dog live as long and happy as possible.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Reprimand depending on what it is and comfort on something else? If they have an accent we simply say "naughty" and set them away from us to not receive attention for a few minutes and then take them outside to finish. If he digs in the garbage or something like that it's "naughty" again and ignoring and tapping on the nose. If it's something like knocking something over or barking we try to calm him down and get him away from the area.

Discipline:
Verbal, ignoring and tapping on the nose and removing treats and toys.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the apartment and outside on walks and potty breaks. We occasionally go to the dog park but the one we used to go to is on the opposite side of town from us now so they're more special trips

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes, either myself, boyfriend or partner.

Where would dog eat?
We have a food stand in the dining room and would get another for them.

Where would dog sleep:
We have multiple dogs beds, our own bed and the couch or floor. If they do better in a kennel we can do that as well as we kennel trained our other dog before he transitioned out of it.

Play & exercise:
Usual schedule is a walk in the morning (8-10) before it gets too hot and then the evening around 6 or 7. Plus playing inside and going on potty breaks which is usually walking around the building. They would be able to play with out other dog too. At least 1 total hour of dedicated walking time a day plus inside play.

My son and I. He is 5 1/2 years old and has been wanting a corgi forever. My friends have corgis and we love them.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have done lots of research and my friends have them and I see them regularly and have babysitted them before quite a few times. They are cute, outgoing, fun,and cuddle. I love their little legs and sweet face. I know they shed a lot and get brushed and groomed regularly. We have no problem with it. We have been to cirgi meet ups.

In my house either (hopefully) cuddling me or my son. We have a 3 bedroom house. We are always home so he/she wouldn't be alone much. Just for doctors appts. Or grocery store.

Who is this dog for?

We adopted Rocky from you in 2005/2006. He passed away 3 years ago. We are ready to open our house to another dog.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We have had 2 Corgis in the past. We love their size and think they are beautiful dogs. Love watching them maneuver heights – going up and down steps. Both dogs were very caring and enjoyed the outdoors.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would walk the dog in addition to playing fetch With frisbee, football etc. Our pet would play with neighbor dogs and I do not believe in dog parks. (Never know the other dogs in the park). When possible would take them to outdoor restaurants and parks.

Who is this dog for?

our household, which includes another dog

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have no corgi experience but have owned herding-type dogs for 25 years, and am an Intake Coordinator with Minnesota Wisconsin Collie Rescue. We recently lost a collie boy and think it would be a good time to consider a smaller breed as we age.

What I know about corgi temperament is that they tend to be bossy and barky. Hoping that an older corgi would be less of a challenge to our remaining canine

Activities planned with Pembroke:
road travel, daily walks in the woods, puttering around outside where corgi will be able to keep chipmunks and squirrels on-guard.

House dog

People at home during the day?
yes, most days and most of the time

Where would dog eat?
we make homemade food with a mix of raw and cooked protein, fresh veggies, and a bit of kibble to round out the nutrition.

Where would dog sleep:
wherever corgi likes–probably on a dog bed in our bedroom or couch in another room.

Play & exercise:
We live on the shores of Lake Superior on a private road. There is plenty of opportunity to explore the woods and bark at the waves. We have a couple of favorite trails that we use daily for dog walks.

We don't have a fence (and can't due to rocky terrain) but have used gps radio collars (tracking only, no shocks) to keep track of where the dogs are at any given time when they are out of our line of sight

Yes, all of our current pets are friendly toward dogs.

Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away?
Yes and I understand that it can take time for peaceful coexistance to develop. This is my main concern with adopting a corgi and the temperament of the individual dog is critical. I assume that a particular corgi is in a foster home that is able to assess temperament.

Lifetime commitment to Pembroke?

Yes, I am willing to commit to this dog for the rest of its life.

Who is this dog for?

This Pembroke is for myself! Always wanted a corgi and I would like to start off with adopting and give my best to a dog in need of a loving home!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My first experience was almost 7 years ago now when my aunt got a corgi and I instantly fell in love with the breed! I love that it is friendly and loving towards strangers and family members. I have seen a lot of corgi's near the place I stay and it never stop my passion for adopting one! I have done quite a bit of research about Corgi's regarding their potential health issues and food allergies. I can provide the best for the corgi by getting them supplements to ensure they have a comfortable and healthy life. I have also researched that owners and breeders at times do cut off their long beautiful tail because of the current trend of the cute corgi's butt. Therefore, if there's any corgi that still has its tail intact and unwanted, I am more than happy to adopt it. I do not like the fact that during my research, I have found that owners would abandon their corgi just because of their tails.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would bring the Pembroke out for walks 3 times a day for at least 15 minutes to half an hour at parks, downtown area, and dog park. I would also play fetch with the Pembroke as well as travel with them on a flight and a road trip! I love travelling and I would always bring my Pembroke along.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Through positive reinforcement! Always train with repetition and not scolding. I would do a time-out for the Pembroke by putting it in its playpen for 5 minutes and bring it back out without any scolding. Eventually, the Pembroke will learn that it is not okay.

Discipline:
Time-out in playpen for 5 minutes or less and bring it back out after.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke time will spend most of his or her time in my house. However, the Pembroke will get 3 walks a day in parks, downtown etc and go on car rides with me wherever I go! Some days, the Pembroke could spend more time outside shopping or walking around with me. I like to give the Pembroke a balance in life.

Who is this dog for?

Both of us

Why do you want a Pembroke?
They are so cute, kind, and loving. I know some people with corgis and they seem to be great companions. I have done research about them, I have found that they're active, require lots of stimulation to use up their energy. They're a herding breed. I have a lot of time, no children, so I believe I could give a lot of attention to the corgi. I have read that they are very affectionate. I'm looking for a small to medium sized dog, I don't want a large dog and I don't have the room for one either. I have read that they tend to overeat/be overweight, so I am prepared to monitor their nutrition.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I can take the corgi on a walk in the morning and a longer walk when i get home from work. I can possibly take the corgi out on a walk during my lunch break. I would bring it to the open field and play fetch/frisbee with the corgi. I enjoy long walks, so that is mainly the activity I will do with the corgi. My fiance absolutely loves dogs, and he is prepared to give the corgi lots of attention and affection, as am I.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would give the corgi a scolding, I wouldn't hit the corgi. I would bring the corgi to the mistake, and point to the mistake and scold the corgi so it will associate the scolding to the mistake/object. I would never scream at the corgi or hit it. I would not even hit it on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, vocal scolding but not yelling. Never hitting. Distraction.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At our home (inside). We have a ranch style home in a rural town of Manning, IA.
