Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have done a lot of research on this breed and I love pembroke corgis from the look all the way to their personality. I think they are the dog version of me. The breed is the perfect size for me, they are loving, loyal and I hear that they are sassy and motivated by food. My only experience with them is seeing them at the state park that I walk at.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Walk at the park, walk in the neighborhood, go to the local dog park, watch tv, cuddle, and just play and hangout.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 MY preferred breed, I love the size, look, attitude, trainability. I love their independent nature while they love unconditionally. My experience with the breed has been fantastic. My boys have always been well trained, by myself, and lived long and happy lives.

 Summer, camping, and walks to the parks in the area, winter, run around the house , and play in the snow. Catch and release is fun. We spend time with other family members and dogs and the dogs are always part of the family. We included them in everything.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 In the last year or so, I have really come to love the Corgi breed. I grew up in a house with bad luck when it came to dogs. We had our first dog pass very young and then we had our second dog rehomed due to extreme aggression. I always wanted a dog in the home as a kid but, these two experiences shut the rest of my family down to adopting a new pup. When it came time for me to be out on my own as an adult and I began searching for a dog to call my own, I fell in love with the Corgi breed. Something I love about Corgi's is the joy that they bring to everyone. They have such fun, loving, spunky personalities to match my fun, loving, spunky personality. However, I've always struggled with the idea of getting a dog from a breeder knowing how many dogs out there need to be rescued. That is what led me to Lakeshore.
Overall, I want a companion dog in my life that will give me joy at home and joy to others when we leave the home. More than anything, I want to rescue a pup in need of a deserving home (ideally, a Corgi!) 🙂

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I would love a Corgi that enjoys being social but, also loves to snuggle and relax. As I said above, I want a companion Corgi. I want to go on walks, explore new places, take the pup to dog-friendly breweries, coffee shops, etc. and snuggle at the end of a long day. I'm prepared to wait a while for the perfect Corgi that fits my life and I suit theirs in return!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		It depends on the extent of the mistake. I think small mistakes like the occasional accident can just happen when the dog is excited, etc. and I would not want to overreact about something small and easily fixable. Before preparing my dog to be a social dog, I would want to make sure it had gone through adequate training and that I felt confident in the dog and in myself as a handler to take the dog to social environments. I personally believe that a lot of these "mistakes" can be tied back to the owner's mishandling of certain situations.

Discipline:
 I think that most dogs, in my opinion, respond a lot more effectively to reinforcement than punishment. For me, this means being consistent about reinforcing the good behaviors the dog displays rather than getting upset and angry about the "bad" behavior. For example, if my dog liked to bark and pull when they saw a squirrel or another dog on a walk, I would work on stopping, have the dog sit, and then hold eye contact with a treat reward until this behavior replaced the barking behavior.

 I think that most dogs, in my opinion, respond a lot more effectively to reinforcement than punishment. For me, this means being consistent about reinforcing the good behaviors the dog displays rather than getting upset and angry about the "bad" behavior. Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We are looking for an affectionate, intelligent, active dog that will fit in with our "pack". Our Great Pyrenees is always looking for a playmate to run with and chase. Through our fostering activities with Retrieve a Golden of the Midwest, we have discovered she plays best with smaller dogs and puppies. The protective nature of the Corgi will fit right in with our suburban LGD.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We are an active family and take formal walks with the dogs daily and we make frequent visits to local nature preserves for trail walks. We spend a lot of time in our back yard in the evenings and on weekends – we hate being indoors. Even in the winter we light a bonfire and play with the dogs in the back yard.

Discipline:
 Our dogs are rather easy to discipline. A firm "No!" and moving them on to something else is generally all it takes. Actually, I have the "mom stare" down pretty well. I always follow up with a treat when they stop and go on to something positive.

 Wherever we are – in the living room, back yard, home office.

Play & exercise:
 We play fetch and "chase the dog" in the back yard almost daily. Whenever we have a foster dog, there is a nonstop wrestling match going on in the living room with toys and dogs.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have several corgis in our neighborhood and my partner has always loved corgis. They pack a lot of personality into a little package. The corgis in our neighborhood are friendly and curious, always looking to run around with (and boss around) our dog. We are looking for a smaller, intelligent breed that can be active and playful. We’d like a corgi but also decided that our next dog would be a rescue as our first came from a breeder.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Walks, short runs, dog park, hiking in forest preserves, road trips and camping. We like to sit with our dog on the couch at the end of the day and wind down as a family. Our corgi would also spend the day with Winston and we’d like to leave them to play together as well.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		We trained our dog using positive reinforcement and verbal corrections. If we catch her doing something she is not supposed to be doing, like eating a sock, we say ‘no’ or ‘leave it’ and take it away from her. If we don’t catch her in the act, we don’t correct her as she likely won’t connect the correction with the action. For potty training, if she started to go in the house, we’d say “hey” and pick her up and go outside. Again, if we didn’t catch her, we didn’t correct her.
