 I want a Pembroke Welsh Corgi because I feel like they would be the perfect companion for me. I’ve wanted one for many years because of their strong personalities, friendliness, affection, and of course how cute they are! Yes, I have done a lot of research.

Who is this dog for?

 The corgi would be a family pet. It would be our first corgi. We have owned our German Sheppard's for almost 13 years and they have both passed away within a year. We have always wanted a corgi and thought about adopting a rescue corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We love the size of the corgi and the colors. We have not done much research about the breed besides that we know they tend to have a lot of energy.

 We have 3 kids that like to stay active. So going for walks and rides are a constant. We have a fenced in back yard for our kids to play in. We live close to the Mississippi river and Saint Croix river where there are beaches and dog parks for us to be able to go to with them.

 What I have found with my German Sheppard's was raising of my voice and making a hissing sound. They understood that meant that something was wrong or they did something bad.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My family has owned 2 corgis in the past. Our first corgi lived for 12 years and our 2nd corgi only livid till the age of 4, but he had stage 5 leukemia. It is the perfect breed for us. We love that the dog is energetic and as a fun personality. The corgi is not too big or too small for our family and home. We have had a lot of fun positive experiences with our two corgis. Winter time for our two corgis, were their favorite time. They loved running in the yard playing in the snow. My oldest corgi loved burring himself in the snow and making tunnels.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Our family would take the corgi for walks, and have play dates with other dogs. We would also play with the dog in our fenced in backyard and play inside. Our past corgis loved playing chase, playing catch, and tug of war. Our last corgi was super active and we took him on lots of walks. Having super active dog is nothing new to my family and we enjoyed every bit of it. We are hoping to get another active corgi.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If the corgi has an accident in the house, I would probably yell "no pee in the house" and have him go outside. If the corgi is chewing on something that he is not supposed to be chewing on, I will say "we don't chew on this, we chew on this" and replace the unwanted object with an object that can be chewed on.

 In the past, I have put my dogs in time out if they have been naughty. For time out they go either in the crate or we put them behind the baby gate in the family room.

 My new corgi would get walked at least twice a day. He would have a chance to spend a good amount of time (20 minutes or however long he wants) to spend in the backyard (fenced backyard). We will also have plenty of toys placed throughout the house for him to choose from.

 We want to adapt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi as we have several friends that have them and we have found them to be friendly, outgoing, energetic, and easygoing dogs. We love the fact that they are friendly, loyal and have energy. We have dogs at for friends with corgis and we have greatly enjoyed ourselves doing so. Yes, we have done some research, which is why we want to adapt one as it's our ideal breed.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		We will show the dog its mistake by calmly walking the dog to said mistake and and firmly state "no" several times with a a disappointing tone and facial expression so that the dog understands what it has done is unacceptable.

Discipline:
 Redirection – stopping the dog in whatever act that he is engaged in that we disapprove of and give him a different pet parent approved option. I.e. if the dog is chewing on the rug, we would tell it no, take the rug out of its mouth, and then give him a chew toy and then proceed to reinforce the behavior with positive praise and a treat.

Address a behavior or action immediately after or during and then reinforce that this act is wrong.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 Our apartment, which is 1500 square feet, so there is room to run/be comfortable.
