Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have always loved Pembrokes. I find them to be outgoing, and a bit quirky like myself. I have several friends with Pembrokes and I have dog sat for them several times both at their home and my own. I understand the importance of activity for Pembrokes and I am prepared to meet the needs of any Pembroke I might be paired up with.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I live across the street from a very dog friendly park and would take my Pembroke their daily (year round). During the warmer months I would take my Pembroke to the lake should they be comfortable with water. Games of fetch in both the house and outside would be daily activities

Who is this dog for?

 This Pembroke would be for my wife Sarah and myself. We both are dog lovers. We got married in December. I have a black lab that is two years old and I got him before I met Sarah. We both have always wanted a corgi and we would like a dog that is raised by both of us. We want another companion in our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My wife and I are dog lovers. We both love Corgis and have always wanted a Corgi. To be specific, I love working dogs; they match my personality as a high energy, active individual. In college, people knew that I loved Corgis so much that they said my "spirit animal" is a corgi. My wife wants a corgi for several reasons. She likes playful, affectionate dogs, however wants a smaller dog, as we already have a Labrador (got him before I met my wife). We both love corgis, but after doing some serious research, deliberation, and compromising, we always come back to corgis and that is what we decided we would like to adopt. It's the best of both worlds as the corgi is a big dog in a small package, playful, affectionate, loyal, and I think would be a wonderful addition to our family.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We are social people and I am very active. We take our current dog on walks and play in the park by our house. We also have a fenced yard that we can play in. My best friend's parents live close by and we go over there and visit with their two dogs and let them play and run around in their 2 acre lot (also fenced). I would like to have a "job" for our new corgi, however I am unsure of what that would be. My lab is bird dog so I would have to find a "job" for our corgi that would match her (or his) strengths, even if it is grabbing the paper in the morning. That is TBD and dependent on the dog.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Correct it quickly. You can't correct a mistake or discipline if the dog isn't aware of what they did. I reinforce good behaviors and habits and quickly redirect or correct poor or unwanted ones.

Discipline:
 I have almost a tiered approach. First, you quickly show the dog the correct behavior or discourage unwanted behaviors. After they know what they're doing is wrong but still continue to do those behaviors, they know that have to go to their "place" (I crate trained my lab) for a short timeout.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 With us! I am a firefighter and my schedule is 24 hours on, 48 hours off. So two out of three days, I am home. My wife is a teacher so she has to work school hours. When one of us is home, the dogs are out and living with us. When neither of us are home, the dogs will be going to their "place." Now on days that I am not home and my wife has a long day at school (due to coaching or extracurricular commitments at the school) we have it worked out that either one of my brothers or my dad comes over during the day to let the dog out, or they get to go to my parents house for the day (my parents live about 4 minutes away in Palatine).

 As stated above, I am home 2/3 days and my wife is a teacher. Most days there is someone home. If neither of us are able to be home, either one of my brothers or my dad will let out and play with the dogs until my wife is done. Otherwise, the dogs are at my parents where my dad is home all day and sometimes my younger brother (he's a college student at the community college in town).

Where would dog eat?
 In the kitchen, same as Bubba (current dog).

Where would dog sleep:
 Adopted corgi would sleep in our room. Bubba's crate is in our room and the corgi's crate would also be in our room. Bubba sleeps on the floor or the bed, but also has no problem sleeping in his crate. We would work with the corgi too.

Play & exercise:
 We play several times throughout the day with our current dog in short sessions and take him for a walk every day too. Often times while on the walk I either stop in a field along the bike path (when it isn't being used for soccer or baseball) and throw a ball or a retrieving dummy around) or I go into the fenced tennis court and take my dog off-leash to run around and burn off some energy.

 We don't have a massive yard, but it isn't tiny either. We have a deck coming off of the house (it's a raised ranch) with stairs. We don't have a swimming pool, however we have a small kiddie pool that I like to put water in on a hot day for our black lab, but I dump it at the end of the day. The only additional fixture would be I will have a small, fenced vegetable garden in the corner of our backyard, that will be coming this summer.

 I want to adopt a corgi because it would bring joy to my life to have a furry companion. I have always loved corgi's spunk and personalities. I have had the honor of meeting and having play times with numerous corgis and have fallen in love with their bright and loving personalities. I have completed research on the breed.

Who is this dog for?

 Our family, (mom, dad, 6yo boy, 8yo boy, and 15yo dog Barley), lost our dear Sandy dog a few months ago, and are now ready to look for a new family member. We are looking for a dog that loves walks, snuggles, and hugs, and won't be aggressive with our elderly 40 lb beagle/retriever mix.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		With our dogs, we've used verbal commands, positive reinforcement, and redirection. In the past when we had a very challenging behavior, we worked with an animal behaviorialist as well.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We love their fun personalities! They are so personable and have an attitude about them we find appealing. Also they are adorable. They are also the perfect size dog for us. My 8 year old and I have read a lot about the breed. We don't know anyone who has one. Our last 2 dogs were Pugs.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We have a medium sized fenced in backyard. So we can play fetch or other fun games to keep them active. We also have a great neighborhood to take walks in. Our Corgi would also go visit family with us. So car rides. My 8 year old son really wants a Corgi to be his companion when he wants to go outside. Our Pugs were always inside dogs however. So, our dogs are only outside if we are or for maybe up to an hour or so alone if they are ejoying the backyard sunshine or something. Also we just want to have a personable fun dog to just hang out with us!

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I would redirect the dog to what they should have done. We use positive reinforcement whenever our dog does the correct behavior.

 Our Pugs did not have many discipline issues. When they did we would tell them no and redirect them and show them what they should have done. We also praised them when they engaged in correct behavior.

 This is one of our concerns. We need a dog that can coexist with our Guinea Pigs. They are in their habitat 90% of the time. They have a very large rabbit cage. We can't have a dog that won't get used to them being in the house. This is one of the reasons we want an older dog. So we can have a good idea in advance if they are ok with small animals. We understand there may be an adjustment period.

 I have done research on this breed and I feel that the description agrees with what we are looking for. The breed is loyal, intelligent, and a very good family dog. They are kind and playful and also love to cuddle. I really enjoy these qualities in a dog. Also they are super cute, can't forget that 🙂

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I always had a soft spot for corgis because I think they are so cute. Once I became more serious about adopting a dog I did research about their personalities and I think a corgi would be a great fit for me. Additionally, they are the right size for my living space.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Playing with balls and stuffed toys inside the apartment, cuddling when tired, going for walks. I live within walking distance of 3 lakes, and my apartment is connected to a bike trail that has miles and miles of walking paths, so we would be very outdoorsy together.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		What I did with my family dog was raise my voice so I could get the dog's attention, say "no", and sometimes pick the dog up and move them away from the area of the mistake.

Discipline:
 We were taught with the family dog to bop him on the top of the head, but I was always reluctant to do that. I usually say "no" and raise my voice or carry the dog out of the room.

Who is this dog for?

 We are a "young" but not to young family (we are almost 40). We have rescued two dogs in the past, when we were really young. The first was from Puerto Rico, she was 1 or 2 then and our son was three (both our kids were raised with small dogs.) Cassy is now 17! The other, Cindy, we got to be a companion to Cassy, was 5 at the time then, and is now 10! They are both small, 1 is 25 lbs the other is 35 lbs, Jack Russel beagle, and Basset/ jack Russel/ corgi mix (we think.) Our first rescued girl is slowing down, spends most of her time sleeping at my feet, and now our other baby needs a friend with more energy, but not a puppy to drive the old lady nuts. We have a fenced yard, and dog door. Two kids, a son who is now 18, and a daughter 12 year old, both are excellent with dogs. Were both veterans, and extremely responsible. And, working for the power company means my spouse has stable employment, even right now.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My grandma rescued one from a pet shelter when I was very little. Sweetest dog ever (except mine now…love them).

I like the Jack Russel mixes I've had, but I think it would be fun to try another breed, but one I am familiar with. We do think Cindy, our younger rescued dog, has some corgi.

They are so cool, and cute.


Activities planned with Pembroke:
 My dogs have a fenced yard, we take them to dog parks when we travel (none nearby.) My children love to play with them, although they don't fetch (our two.), they do wrestle. We try to walk them at least once a day, in addition to the fenced yard. Having two Jack Russel mixes means we are used to high energy dogs. The Basset and Beagle in them, means they are stubborn, and vocal. We did have to house break Cassy, she had been a street dog in Puetro Rico. We had to re-house train Cindy. Us staying home right now means we would have the time to invest in this, if needed. And while we have trained our own dogs, if needed, we would do obedience classes.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If I see the mistake made, like wetting the floor, you show them, say NO and put them outside. We had to give Cassy treats to coax her outside in the rain, but she eventually got it. Cindy bit my husband when we first got her, she's sweet as pie now.

 We try to use positive discipline, treats rewards, cuddles. Cassy is getting old enough she's starting to have potty problems, so we give her treats to go outside.

 Right now, all day, two adults, one child (My son is 18). When I am working, no, but only school hours, with access to a fenced yard. Next year my son will be in college, college courses don't take "all day" a good amount of college is doing homework. Regular school is only a few hours. My husbands schedule means that he works shift work, and gets a reasonable amount of time off (4 days working 3 off type thing) So it would be rare for the dog to be alone more than a few hours. My son was raised with dogs and is very good at caring for them.

Where would dog eat?
 Currently, my dogs eat in the kitchen, next to each other, out of their own bowls. When we first got Cindy she had food issues, so we kept them apart to prevent fighting. I anticipate the dog will also eat in the kitchen, but we can change that if needed.

Where would dog sleep:
 We have dog beds through out the house. Cassy, likes to sleep in the middle of the landing (pretty much where ever the dog wants is the point).

Play & exercise:
 As much or little as they want. We play with Cindy often, her favorite games are chase and tug of war. Cassy doesn't want to play to much anymore, but she used to love to wrestle. I do have the kids walk them at least once a day, especially now as it seems to be helping Cassy not have potty accidents.
