It is for me! | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have always been in love with Corgis and Shelties. I have had 2 Shelties and losing them was a heartbreak, but I would never trade the good years I had with them. Honestly, I love their kind eyes and silly happy faces.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
If I saw the mistake I would correct in a stern voice. NEVER physically. If I did not see it I would probably just let it go because I don't think they quite understand after the fact.
Discipline: |
Stern Voice, Repetition.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
With me…..I am self employed and work from home. I travel very little but have dog friends who have assured me that if I did have to travel my dog would have a safe, fun place to go. I have a nice house and a small, secluded back yard. I have a great walking park a few blocks away. I live on a busy road so I can assure you, the dog would never be left outside alone.

No, some of our current pets are not friendly toward dogs
Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
I answered no because they both run and hide when someone is here with a dog. They have had no negative interaction with dogs. Kirby spent the first few years of his life in a house with dogs and had no problem and even slept on a bed with them. They are both good cats, interact well with my grandchildren and have from the time to they were infants.

They always seem to bright and energetic. I have not had a lot of personal experiences with the breed but all the ones we have had were positive. The dogs have been friendly and kind. We live in a neighborhood with lots of families and would like a dog who is not reactive on his leash, likes other dogs, and keeps to himself around others and children. We can work with some behavioral issues, but we are newer dog parents on a low budget and may not be able to provide ongoing professional/training services to our new child. We can offer lots of love and time, though!

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Ashwaty, her partner Braden, and their would-be brother, Porcini, a dog-loving shepherd mix. Porcini is almost two years old and would want another playful and carefree companion.
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
We have a couple friends who have PWCs. They have infectious personalities, playful energy, and are great cuddlers. We have been dog-sitters for them, and know that they are intelligent and require a good amount of exercise and engagement. Other than hands-on experience, we have read many available resources online and will continue to research during the adoptions process and well into our role as parents. It’s endless learning!
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
With Porcini, we go on long walks, run and play with other dogs, and play with toys at home. We would extend the same activities with our new family member and would hope that Porcini offers a good exercise outlet.

House dog | ||||||
People at home during the day? |
Not for the entire day; Braden and I have different schedules so there’s never too much time alone. If there’s an issue with our ability to be at home, we invite our dog-sitting friends to play.
Where would dog eat? |
In the dining room in their own bowl. We will have to watch to see if Porcini and our new pup can eat at the same time.
Where would dog sleep: |
Initially in the crate and then eventually in a dog bed in the apartment. Or maybe share a dog-specific sofa with Porcini!
Play & exercise: |
At least two walks a day with other dog play incorporated, indoor playtime, and Porcini playtime. We will base it off of our Corgi’s exercise needs! We are prepared to ensure that is met (Porcini needs a lot).

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
This corgi would be for me (Emily). I live alone, and have no other pets. We'd also stay at my parent's house in Davenport, IA (about an hour away from me), on average, about 1 weekend a month. |
||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
I have loved Corgis for most of my 31 years. My family got our first corgi when she was a puppy and I was 10 years old, her name was Chloe and she was my heart. I love that wily corgi personality, and the intelligence and stubbornness, the energy and playfulness, and how she'd curl up in the crook of your legs as you sleep at night… and then you awake to see you have 10% of the bed when she has somehow has 90%. We got our second corgi when I was 17, her name was Devon. She was as equally as intelligent as Chloe and as active but because she had been in several different homes by the time we got her, at 2 years old, she was more standoffish and kept to herself. But with time and patience she folded herself into our family unit and accepted that pack lifestyle. I loved those 2 very much and through them have a love for the breed. |
||||||
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
I live near a walking path, that goes for miles, so we would go on several walks a day. And I am a 5 minute walk from a dog park where she could run around off leash if she'd like. I'd also take her to my parent's house where she'd have a yard to hang out in, and a whole house to explore. I work in an office 4 days a week, so I would either take her to doggie daycare those days or there is a dog walking service here friends have used and highly recommend that I would use if she wanted to be more solo on my work days but still obviously needs some outside time, and affection and attention in the middle of the day. |

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
I would try to make it clear to her that the action is wrong, in a firm commanding voice. I would reinforce good actions counter to the mistake with praise, pets and treats.
Discipline: |
Firm commanding, "No"s Putting her in a room on her own if she is misbehaving towards guests. NEVER hitting. (that should go without saying, but I'm still putting it down) |

I would like to add more info to the question 4 questions back. There are actually quite a few dogs in my building so all of their owners here have done the same. |

Current pets dog friendly? |
|||||||
Are you willing to work on it if your new dog doesn’t get along with your current pets right away? |
Of course. When my family first got Devon (our second corgi) she got in a couple of minor scrapes (a scratch on the nose and ear and a lot of barking and teeth showing) with Chloe (our first corgi) to try and establish dominance over her. We disciplined Devon, separated them, and fed them in different rooms from then on, which solved the problem.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
Our family- 2 married adults and 3 children ages 15, 11, 9
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
My 11 year old daughter is obsessed with the cuteness and personality of the Corgi breed. I thought perhaps it would wear off, but 2 years later and she's still as enamored as the first time she saw them. She cries literally when she gets to play with them and the stickers of the Corgi align her notebook and waterbottle. Because of her joy, I've researched them and find them to be cuddly, cute dog friends, good for kids and family. They have long lifespans and just seem like a fun breed for our family dynamic. This would be my children's first dog, and I think a Corgi they could manage and be responsible to take care of him or her.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We would walk our dog daily. My commitment as I am going through chemo for breast cancer, is that we would get a dog as a reward for me making it through treatment. Then, I need to get up and get moving. Having a dog will help my kids to stay active, and will get me moving as well. Particularly once Corona virus breaks, we will desperately need and appreciate the exercise and ability to move.
Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for basic care? |
Yes | ||||||
Money for unforeseen medical expenses? |
Yes | ||||||
Willing to house train? |

Vet contact info: |
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}
Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: |
When we had a dog when I was a child, we would return him to the "scene of the crime" and talk to him to say "that's wrong." I'm not sure all the new age techniques, but I would want to have an expert share with us what strategies work to help teach the dog to follow 'the rules', without any abuse or harm coming to the dog. Dogs make mistakes. It happens.
Discipline: |
Some alone time, removing them from the scene, removing toys, not sure what else. No corporal punishment, not chaining the dog to a post. I don't believe in cruelty, but teaching the right behavior.
Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time: |
In the house, they would have their own space, maybe in our finished basement, but likely in the front living room of our house, or with my children.

Questions Regarding Motivation for Adopting and Intentions
Who is this dog for? |
My husband and I. | ||||||
Why do you want a Pembroke? |
Our daughter adopted a corgi puppy a couple years ago and we fell in love. She has now moved to the west coast and took the dog. Our Yorki got along well with the dog and enjoyed interacting with him. We used to have a golden retriever and putting her down was hard, especially on the yorki. We are looking to add a second dog and think this would be a good fit as we have done our research on the corgi breed. Due to the age of our current dog though, we are not looking for a puppy.
Activities planned with Pembroke: |
We have a large fenced in yard and live on a bike path adjacent to a park district. We would walk the dog often and love exploring the forest preserves and trails in our town.
