 Myself and fiance. We live in an apartment in the south loop which is very dog friendly.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We have not personally owned a corgi but we have friends who own corgis and we love their spunk and intelligence. We find the Corgi a great size for being in a condo but love the big dog mentality. We need an outgoing dog who is friendly as they will see a lot of people and dogs in our building and the neighborhood.

 This Pembroke would be for myself! My dream dog is a Corgi and would ideally like to adopt one rather than going to a breeder

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I want to adopt a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for many reasons. The first is, I think they are the most adorable breed! It's really embarrassing but I have a ton of Corgi calendars and random trinkets around my house without having one, so it's definitely a dog I've wanted for a while. I love their size (perfect for my small house) and their fluffy butts. 🙂 Second, I love the nature and temper of the breed. The Corgis I've interacted with from Wag! walking and friends with them are that they were well-mannered, energetic and intelligent, yet a little sassy at times which I appreciate. I'm also a very active person (love walking and running outside) so I enjoy that they're athletic and not a 'lazy' breed.

I've done quite a bit of research on the breed to familiarize myself with what living with them would be like. It sounds like a good fit based on my living situation in Chicago.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I suppose it depends on what the mistake is, but in my experience it's important to be calm yet assertive — and address the mistake immediately to avoid creating bad habits.

 A couple negative re-reinforcement methods like time outs and withholding rewards, but I've learned that positive reinforcement goes a long way in creating good habits — like praise, treats and toys.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I am a schipperke lover. I have only ever had schipperke's, but, when I express my desires for a rehomed or rescue dog I always think of the corgi as my alternate dog. I feel love and happy when I look at a corgi! There was a schipperke/corgi mix named BoBo who lived in Florida that was the cutest thing you have ever seen! I believe that the corgi has the termperment that works well with my lifestyle. I had to put my 12 year old schipperke Bob to sleep in December and am looking for another, preferably male, to become my companion.

 I am retired and live alone on 1 acre of land in rural Wisconsin. I walk one mile every day and my pup would be with me at all times: walking, mowing the lawn, grocery shopping and visiting relatives.

 One acre in rural Wisconsin surrounded by fields and an electric fence. There are sometimes cattle in the fields. I train by walking with perimeter with the leash, and having him/her on a lead until pup knows boundaries. It has worked well with my schipperkes.

 Growing up I had two corgis. Their temperament and personalities filled me with so much joy. I love their spunky attitudes and that they are “big dogs in a little body”. They are very intelligent dogs and I want one because I know they will be compatible with my current living situation.

 We want walk the corgi often. We would take it to the lake, walk it down the river and take it to the park to play. We would play with the dog in the house often and would make sure it received lots of exercise.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		We would be very patient. We would show the dog what it did improperly but then refocus it to a good behavior. We would guide it from negative behavior to positive behaviors by using clear commands and food incentives to correct mistakes.

Discipline:
 We would calmly let the dog know what he did wrong and show him specifically what it is that he did inappropriately. We would look away and ignore him when he’s acted out just for attention. After ignoring him we would immediately give him attention again when he begins behaving well. We would crate him for only short times to let him know when he’s acted poorly but once he’s learned a quick lesson we would let him out again.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 In our apartment with us, out and about. It would also spend much of its time outside, going for walks.

 I have always loved corgis. I grew up riding horses and the stable where I boarded had three corgis. They were always either in the barn or "helping" us school our horses! They were full of personality and courage.

 We are an active family of five with two adults and three teen daughters. We like to take walks and play in the backyard. We visit neighbors with dogs and my mother lives across the street with her Border Terrier. So we would look for a dog that enjoys the company of humans and canines.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		Calmly redirect – in the case of a bathroom mistake, put the Pembroke outside immediately and clean up the mess. I do not believe in punishing a dog for a mistake in the house – but I do believe in getting rid of the evidence right away! I would also adjust my habits – careful monitoring of water consumption and regular and consistent trips to the backyard.

 I am a believer in crate training – not for discipline but for security for the dog. So a new dog would not be left to roam the house until I had observed and determined their level of house training, etc. We do not yell at our dogs or hit our dogs. As I said above, redirection is key to my work with all our other pets (and teenagers). I also believe in positive reinforcement. And am aware of negative reinforcement. For example, our beagle was very vocal. We did not yell at her to be quiet. Instead, we moved the couch so she could no longer see all the other dogs out on their walks.

 I recently lost my first PWC at about age 14. I had gotten him as a 5-year old rescue from a puppy mill in Ohio.  I love the temperament of a corgi, very intelligent,happy,easy going, inquisitive. I have always had the smaller breed of dogs. Family members have had corgi's ,I have always wanted one, just lost my Yorkie and I miss the companionship.
