Who is this dog for?

My family

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My husband is obsessed with this breed. He really has his heart set on one to add to the family. Izzy was his loyal companion for 13 years and he was devastated when she passed in 2017. He is finally ready to move on and is insisting on a Corgi. I am insisting on a rescue. This is our solution. We have 2 large dogs and don’t want another large dog. We love the breed because they are big dog personalities in a little dog body. We love the high energy they have, it’s needed to keep up with our outdoors life style. I am familiar with training dogs. There is no dog in the world more bull headed and stubborn than my sheep dog and he gets compliments on his behavior every time we are out.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We are outside all the time. We live on 3 acres with alpacas and goats. We have 2 cats that are indoor/outdoor cats and our dogs are outside with us when we are but prefer to be inside. My husband spends a lot of time in the woods with the dogs hiking the Allegheny forest. I spend every nice day outside walking the neighborhood with my 2.5 year old and my 9 month old. We also like to bring them to the river to swim.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If it’s during the act I’ll get the dogs attention (snap fingers near them, or make a “ah ah” noise) then sternly and calmly say no and redirect the behavior.

Discipline:
I used to watch a lot of Cesar Milan so I very strong believe in rewarding a date of mind. If the behavior is energy related we exercise or attention related I ignore the dog until it calms down and then reward that calm state. If it’s housebreaking I’ll tell the dog no and let them outside and over excitedly reward any time he/she goes to the bathroom outside.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our house with all our other animals (minus the alpacas and goats)

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No but my other two dogs are and they love their kid free time. We do not crate, unless the dog is more comfortable there we prefer they have the run of the house.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen with my other dogs. We feed them once a day (my border collie will only eat once a day and my sheepdog was eating all the other ones food and getting way too fat) they get dry food mixed with wet (my border collie is a very picky eater).

Where would dog sleep:
Probably on the bed with us or on the couch with my sheepdog or on the floor with my border collie mix. Where ever they are most comfortable. We have dog beds but they only get used by the cat.

Play & exercise:
We have cheese daily with our outdoor animals. In the winter that takes about 30 min. The dogs like going out for that and playing with the goats (they get along great). When the weather is nice we are outside during the week a minimum of an hour a day, at the very least. On weekends we spend most of the time outside. Our dogs come with us almost everywhere we go that allows them. We live on 3 acres in the country. Our animals have enough room to roam and still be on our property. We have trained them not to leave the yard and we would never let them out unsupervised.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We owned a Pembroke Welsh Corgi for 13 years who passed away 4 years ago. We loved the playful personality of the Corgi, the herding instinct was adorable with our 3 children, and loved the big dog attitude in a smaller package.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We really miss just walking him around the neighborhood. Our previous Corgi went everywhere with us – road trips, camping, hiking, and lakehouse rentals.

Who is this dog for?

This corgi would be primarily for Gina, however Christopher is my boyfriend and would help with the corgi as well. We have been researching Corgi breeders for several months, however I have adopted dogs in the past and would love to continue that tradition. I love the Corgi breed and have wanted to get one of my own for several years now. I would love to work with you on providing a Corgi in an extremely loving home. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Obviously, what first drew me to the Corgi breed was how cute they are. As someone who has always grown up with dogs and have had dogs in my adult life, I knew that now is a time in my life when I would like another loving pup. After doing much research about which dog I think would be the best fit for me, Corgis came up again and again. I enjoy active breeds, as I am very active myself. I am also interested in a smaller breed as I live in an apartment currently, and know I could not provide an adequate environment for a larger breed. I know Corgis are extremely smart, and I feel that I have great patience to train them appropriately and give them the attention they require. I have always had very active and affectionate dogs throughout my life, so that is the type of breed I continue to search for.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
There are multiple dog parks around my area, so I already taken friends/siblings dog to the park very frequently. I enjoy letting them run around and see how happy they get when they can unwind. I also enjoy spending time with other dog owners and exchanging tips and tricks.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would remain calm, speak to the Corgi in a way he/she will understand. I will repeatedly go through commands with the Corgi until we start making progress. I full understand training takes patience.

Discipline:
I have always used positive reinforcement when training past dogs. This has always worked well for me in the past. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is patience. All dogs/breeds are different, but all can get to an adequate level of training with patience and time. We both need to be in the time to be successful. I would also be more than willing to take a class if I felt I needed extra help.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My apartment, outside on walks with me, and at nearby dog parks

Who is this dog for?

This corgi would be for us. We lost our sweet corgi, Bandit, last April and are starting the process of looking for a fluffy butt companion to bring the joy she once brought to us back into our home.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We lost our sweet angel about a year ago. We miss her sassy little attitude, her cute little hops, and her wiggly butt.

We love the breed because they are so independent and loving and loyal all at the same time. I love that they are a big dog with a big attitude in a little package. They are also the smartest dogs I’ve ever known. I taught Bandit to ring a doorbell to go potty in two days when she was just 5 months old.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We take our older dog on two walks a day and when we had Bandit we took special trips to the lake to swim, went on long hikes (carried her up the steep stuff, because she wasn’t allowed to jump) we went camping, and played fetch every day.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I feel just like with humans you have to understand what your dog responds to. Bandit, our corgi was stubborn, so a stern voice was all it took. However, our older dog Della was once abused, so she gets scared with a stern voice and redirecting her is a better way for her.
I got Bandit when she was a little puppy so I was able to train her by positive reinforcement.
Most of the time she was naughty was when I wasn’t home. For instance, shed tear open a bag to shreds or get into the garbage. Because I didn’t catch her in the act, I didn’t feel like she’d know what she was getting in trouble for, so I made sure I didn’t leave bags that had had food in them and I bought trash cans with lids.

Discipline:
I explained above. I felt like Bandit responded well to a stern voice and positive reinforcement. I also felt like keeping her tired and entertained kept her out of trouble in the first place.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
My husband and I do both work full time, but we have a big backyard they couldn’t spend outside, a cozy bed inside, and walks and fetch in the mornings and evenings.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Not every day, but I work from home about two days a week.

Where would dog eat?
We have the food bowls set up near the table.

Where would dog sleep:
In a cozy bed in our bedroom, or in a crate if they felt more comfortable there.

Play & exercise:
All the time! Our older dog gets two walks a day. When bandit was around we’d walk to the park all together and then Della would take a nap and Bandit would play fetch. We also have a big back yard and parks all around for fetch. If they liked playing with other dogs, we’d make trips to the dog park down the road.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Aside from the fact that they are adorable, and the perfect size for an apartment, from my research on the breed I have learned that they are very affectionate. While I have had several dogs in my life, this will be my first dog that I have on my own, and a companion as I leave college and enter the workforce. Another thing I like about the breed is that they tend to be very excited and have a lot of personality, which I personally enjoy and know I will look forward coming home to every day.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
This depends on the dog and what they are already accustomed to. Walking is a must for me, but depending on how sociable the dog is I would consider hikes and going to dog meet ups and the local dog beach. This would entirely depend on their comfort with other dogs however, as I am perfectly fine with either options.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Mistakes are natural, especially with rescues. Using a firm voice and teaching the Pembroke the command “No,” I plan on providing it direction. I recognize that it is my job to train it, so it is important for me to stay on top of its behavior. I will also reward the Pembroke for good behavior, further reinforcing that training.

Discipline:
I plan on using an angry voice and the cage to discipline the Pembroke for doing something wrong.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
The Pembroke would spend most of the day in my apartment. This will include being in a pen, which will have all of its toys, a bed, and water while I am gone for work.

House dog

People at home during the day?
It depends on the day. I am going to school and working part time. Some days I am out 8-5 and others I am at the house all day or for half of the day. I plan on maintaining a standard eating and walking schedule with the Pembroke however to establish routine.

Where would dog eat?
Inside. I would take it for a walk after eating.

Where would dog sleep:
The corgi would sleep inside. Where inside depends on its preference. In order to crate train the Pembroke, it will initially sleep in the cage with its bed, but I am open to that being in the living room or my bedroom.

Play & exercise:
Excessive will come from 2-3 walks per day. The length of those walks will depend on its energy level, but at least a minimum of 20 minutes. I will play with the Pembroke every day, and on the weekends (when weather permits) take it to an enclosed dog park so it can run around. I know that some adopted dogs are not as sociable, despite breed trends, so the time of day I take the dog out will depend on this.

Who is this dog for?

Our family, I am 16 years old currently an online student. My mom is a stay at home mother, and my father works a 9-5 job at the environmental protection agency in Ann Arbor. We are interested in adopting a puppy for our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My cousin had a corgi and we grew up with it, I barley remember it because I was so young but my cousin keeps telling me they are amazing family dogs, and very affectionate. We currently have a dog who isn’t very affectionate so I am wanting a dog who will cuddle and be my dog!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Take him to my local lake which I live right by, walk downtown which is nearby, take to nearby recreation areas and trails. Also I would buy my corgi a plastic pool and fill it with mini balls because they love to nuzzle through ball pits!! Take him to dog training classes, take him to dog park to associate with other dogs.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Understand that any dog is going to make a mistake like peeing in the house, so I would just clean it up and not scold it, because the dog probably feels bad about it already!

Discipline:
I train the dogs I have so I can use simple gestures to display discipline, like a simple “No!”

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At our house

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
The breed is adorable. I had a Corgi in the past. She was sweet, rarely stubborn, loved children, loved to play fetch for hours, she chased cats and rabbits out of our yard but never went after the in house cats. We had no fences and she never went past the trees that bordered the yard, somehow she just knew what was ours. I was able to train her to walk well on a lead, her kennel was open in the house, she spent time in it when she wanted to be there. Others that knew the bread said she was irregular with her attitude. Loved swimming as well. I never taught her, she just jumped in one day to fetch a ball that went too far. Loved being groomed. When someone would knock on the door, she would bark once like a doorbell and sit quiet waiting to see who was there. I loved how she would go from room to room making sure all the people where there when visiting my parents on holidays and then come sit back down by me without direction. I used to take her to regular vet/chiropractic visits to help keep her back in good shape. She loved her visits with them.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walking, Fetch, car rides from Green Bay to Chicago, she slept on the bed when she wanted, visited with friends who had children. Lots of cuddling.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would walk up to her, firmly say no, let her see my disappointment, take her outside or away from what it is she was doing.

Discipline:
I never locked her in the kennel. That was her safe place. Time outs in the rest room if needed. Firm words or phrases usually distract from the activity. Bad Dog when needed, good dog when deserved. Squirt bottle if necessary.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Roaming free in the house with me. Mystic laid in her open Kennel if she did not want to be on the couch with me. She was kennel trained when I received her. I was told it was her home within our home. She loved to be in it with her stuffed animal babies.

House dog

People at home during the day?
I live alone. Sometimes she would be alone, other times I work from home.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
Where ever she felt safe. Bed, Kennel, floor.

Play & exercise:
When I had Mystic, we would walk every morning, then at lunch time and again at night. After the evening walk, I would play fetch with her. How long depended on the day and weather. She did not like the rain. She swam in her kiddie pool in the summer and I cut paths in the snow in the winter. She loved to play fetch. On rainy days I would toss her toy a few times in the house only. She tended to stop and pee if we did more than that in the house. For which she was not punished as I felt it was my own fault.

Description of yard:

I live in a trailer home/park. We have no fences, dogs are not permitted to be left alone outside and must be on a leash and picked up after. I happen to live across the street from the park where I can take her to run. I also live within one mile of the neighborhood dog park. I have friends that I visit that have land and children. There is a pond at one friends house where she could swim only when supervised.
