 We recently said goodbye to our 12 yr old Welsh Corgi, Carmel, to cancer in Oct 2019. We adopted Carmel when she was two and absolutely loved having her personality in our family for ten years. Our family is knowledgeable and big fans of the breed. We are looking for another young adult.

 When we started considering getting a dog, we did lots of research on all different breeds. We loves that corgis are active dogs that also love to snuggle and be near their humans. We like the fact that they seem like people pleasers and smart. We are interested in agility training so we were excited to see that corgis often excel in it. We had a neighbor that owned a corgi we really loved.

 I have always had a dog heart. I have fostered and helped care for dogs my whole life and managed a shelter. I love the corgi breed for their personalities…all so unique and special…and they're pretty cute
I worked with corgis at a training facility I volunteered for. I have done research and I took animal behavior in college and as stated I'm a dog junkie.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My husband has always wanted a Corgi. Following the loss of my beloved beagle, I feel that the characteristics of the breed would fit into our household. My husband and I are able to find a sassy attitude charming and endearing. I have found that the smaller the packaging, the bigger the personality. I know that the breed are herders, therefore, intelligent, vigilant, and active. I have known a few Corgis and find them to be sweet, loyal dogs, fit for royalty…

 We live near the Indiana Dunes and it is a favorite spot of Gypsy's and (recently deceased) Bonita's. We take walks around our neighborhood and dog parks/forests nearby. Sometimes, we like to just cuddle puddle and watch movies on the couch. (Yes, we let dogs on the couch, and sometimes on the bed.)

I handle these things like an adult, clean up the mess, be better vigilant about how I, as the human and adult can mitigate future accidents and then focus on the dog's behavior.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 It has been a dream of mine to someday own a PWC. I've always loved the temperament of the breed and have felt that we share many similar personality traits 🙂 . I've done extensive research of the breed and know that they are herding dogs which require a special type of training and supervision especially around young children. They're incredibly smart and that makes me excited for all of the potential training activities we could do together.

 I enjoy the size, as I live in a city apartment. The temperament seems to match well, and I grew up with corgis as working dogs around horses when I worked at a stable. Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I've always dreamed of having a Corgi. I think they always look happy, and their smiles are contagious. They are cute, fun, and funny. I've grown up with two Shelties, so I'm aware of the herding breeds. They seem very smart and full of life. Although I don't have much direct experience with Corgis, if I ever seen one on the street, I think I instantly smile and always ask if I can pet the good boy/girl. One of the residents in my neighborhood has a Corgi named Tank (so cute!), and he just exuded happiness.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I would love a Corgi to go on walks with, play with at home, bring to family and friends' houses when visiting, cuddle with on the couch or floor, and just be with. Dogs enrich your life!

If the problem was chewing on furniture, I would be firm (strict, not anything more) if I caught him/her chewing, then I would redirect the dog with a distraction like a bone. Then reward him/her when they are chewing on what they are supposed to be chewing on. Maybe the problem is that they're bored or need more exercise, so maybe the answer would also be play with him/her or take him/her for a short walk.

 In my house. I would plan for a crate and dog bed on the lower level and a dog bed on the second level.

 Only on weekends. During the week, I leave for work around 7am and return around 4:45-5pm. I would plan to hire a dog walker to stop by midday because of this.

 I would set our their food in their bowl in the kitchen.

Where would dog sleep:
 I imagine they would sleep up in my room on a dog bed, or on the second level on a dog bed, or downstairs in their crate at first. I think it will depend on the dog!

Play & exercise:
 I don't have a fenced-in yard, so I would plan to walk the dog through the neighborhood after work and on weekends. There's a nature trail close by, so I would love to take longer walks on that when the weather starts to get a little nicer. I would also plan to play with toys inside. I already have bought a bunch of toys in anticipation of getting a dog. 🙂
