Who is this dog for?

My husband and myself and our black lab

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis are adorable and so loving and outgoing. We want a sibling for our black lab mix, preferably not too high energy of a corgi though because our lab is a snugly couch potato. I've researched and know them to be loving, active, playful, and barky.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We'd walk our neighborhood and maybe some trails. We visit my parents very often so that is extra playtime. We'd play with toys and hopefully get a fenced in yard at our new home we're building.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Positive reinforcement has worked best for our lab. She is an absolute angel and so well behaved.

Discipline:
We say "no" and our lab has understood. Sometimes a loud noise is needed to redirect attention or a finger snap.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Mostly in our home, but sometimes at my parents.

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I grew up with my aunt’s corgis and found their temperament to be exactly what I’m looking for in a dog. I find them to socialize very well and they perfectly bridge the gap between couch potato cuddle bugs while remaining active and playful. I also prefer more affectionate dogs which is consistent with the corgis I’ve known.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I’m a regular hiker and camper and would love to bring my corgi on my adventures. My girlfriend and I are also avid road-trippers and would love a furry companion to bring along and see the country.

Move him/her to another part of the house, discipline in the moment, redirect him/her to acceptable activities (ie replace the shoes they’re chewing on with a proper chew toy)

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement
Clicker training
Redirecting behavior
Relocation in the house

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Generally at my home or with me hiking/camping. Regular trips to the dog park and long walks/jogs included.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Sometimes. My work allows dogs so I would take him/her to work on occasion as well once he/she was properly trained and socialized to it. My girlfriend is home most of the day on weekends and I am home all day a few days during the week.

Where would dog eat?
I have a spot in the dining room set aside for dog feeding.

Where would dog sleep:
I would prefer to let the dog decide where he/she would like to sleep thought try to keep it consistent. Ideally he/she would sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom but I am open to allowing dogs on my bed of that is what he/she prefers.

Play & exercise:
There is a large dog park near my home to which we’ll make regular trips. I also take daily jogs/walks for exercise that I’d like to include my corgi in. There are also larger parks downtown as well as the aforementioned hikes outside of the city which occur approximately monthly.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

Mackenzie. She needs an emotional support animal for her severe anxiety disorder.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I want to adopt a corgi because I think they are adorable, I have done a little research and their average size, weight, and personality all fit into what I need.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I would walk with my dog daily, go to stores that allow dogs, and basically do as much as I can with my dog. I need constant help with my anxiety, so I do not plan to be separated from my dog often.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I would discipline them in a calm yet firm way. For example, if they made a mess, I would say "no," point at the mess, and make sure they look at the mess.

Discipline:
"Heel," put them in a "sit/stay," "no," "come," but NEVER abuse.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Wherever I am at, whether that is in my dorm or out doing things. I spend a lot of my time outside doing homework and hanging with friends.

Who is this dog for?

For me, for my partner, for my other corgi

Why do you want a Pembroke?
My Corgi, Lilliput, has been a joy in my life. I love that she is so smart, always 3 steps ahead. She has a rather large vocabulary. When she was younger she was a star at agility (though we only trained, never competed). I love the attitude of herding dogs. I know that they need to learn right away what the rules are. Lilli not only learned the rules, but made sure other dogs followed those rules. In her first several years I spent time on Corgi message boards, learning a lot.
As a long-time Adoption Counselor (volunteer) at Dane County Humane Society for the last 11 years, I have worked with many types of dogs. The herding dogs have always been among my favorites.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
My corgi, Lilli, was a star at agility classes. She went through many different types of classes to keep her busy, and her mind alert, We do visit a dog park 2 – 3 times a week. Since losing our Spaniel, she has lost some interest in walks, but we hope to re-engage her. An older dog would probably just spend time at the park, A younger dog may participate in classes.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
A Mistake? If you mean peeing in the house, it must be cleaned with an enzimatic cleaner, and ignored. If caught in the act, distract, carry dog outside. A rule breaking? Distract, redirect. Figure out why it happened.

Discipline:
Positive Reinforcement. Nothing in Life is Free. Lilliput is very tuned in to human speech. She wears a loose Martingale collar and responds to a quick tug, and a gesture or verbal command, If misbehaving in the house, she responds to verbal reprimands, and generally comes back to me.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house. Should she need a crate, for house training or safety from things she may eat or destroy, then she would be in a crate when not supervised.

Discipline:
Lilliput is very tuned in to human speech. She wears a loose Martingale collar and responds to a quick tug, and a gesture or verbal command, If misbehaving in the house, she responds to verbal reprimands, and generally comes back to me.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In the house. Should she need a crate, for house training or safety from things she may eat or destroy, then she would be in a crate when not supervises.

Who is this dog for?

Our Family-Aside from my husband and myself, we have 2 boys (ages 5 and 8), and a 12 year old puppy name Kedzie (we think is a aussie mix) who we rescued from a shelter 11 years ago. The rescued corgi would be a part of our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I love all the herding dogs. I especially love the Corgis joyful and determined spirit which I think would match with our family's personality. I have done research on the breed-illnesses/health issues, genetic disorders, temperament and behavior.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We would play in the backyard with the kids, go for walks in the neighborhood, and go to the local dog park in Oak Park where we are members.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Depends on the mistake, usually we say "unun." to stop the behavior. Followed by a reward if the behavior is corrected.

Discipline:
Mainly positive reinforcement with treats. We rarely have to discipline our dog these days.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Initially, we would crate train during the time we are out. After a few months would let them roam the house. We would have beds for the dog to sleep on in various rooms-we do not allow dogs on furniture(it can cause hip issues as they get older–our inlaws dog had this). They would spend nighttime in our room.

Who is this dog for?

Laurie Bigelow

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I had a lovable tri-color Pembroke Welsh Corgi in the past and love the breed! Bruce, my Corgi, had a wonderful mellow personality. All my family and friends loved Bruce! He traveled with me at times when I was on vacation. He knew some tricks and and loved his yellow tennis ball. He tried to talk and it was so cute! I loved taking him on walks! I know Corgis are herding dogs. I took excellent care of him!

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Go for walks. I live next door to a park and would take him or her there to play. I also live by a beautiful walking trail and would take him or her to walk and get exercise, sunshine and fresh air. I would like to take him or her in the car for car rides for short outings. I would like to take him or her to have play dates with friend's dogs.
