Me

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Have had two corgies in the past..the last one died of cancer when only5, she was able to visualize with me and was a great companion. She was such a great dog,I was not willing to get another so, had border collies in my life for several years.my last border collie died naturally, peacefully on my kitchen floor 3 years ago. At this time in my life I would best accommodate an older dog,as I am older and would like for the dog to age a.long with me but, with some maturity…

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I see the dog as one who will accompany me in my work as a body therapist ,also , see if the dog is suited for volunteer work in hospitals. I live in rural indiana with 18 acres with trails in the woods which have provided great exercise and fun for all the dogs I have had..

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have loved this breed since I was 10 years old. I love the big dog energy & mentality in the little body. I grew up with German Shepherds, who originally sparked my love of the herding group. Their intelligence, loyalty, and affection make them (the herding group) the best group there is! Every interaction I've ever had with a PWC has made me laugh, and always brightens my day. Their hearts are just so big, and today we all need a little more love. The woman who sits next to me at work has 3 corgis, and I have come to love them as my own. Every morning they stop by and say good morning to me, they take their afternoon nap underneath my desk, and they know when I've had a rough day and are ready to comfort me. I want a Corgi because I need a companion who can live their life alongside me. I want a best friend to be there for me when I need them, and someone to challenge me to step out and be the best dog mom I can be. I'm looking for a best friend who will love me forever, but also make me earn that love. I am a person who needs someone/something to take care of, and I believe a PWC will gladly accept my affection and love, and reciprocate in full. Because I've been interested in this breed since I was 10, I can confidently say I've read just about every book written on this breed. Every day I try to learn something new.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
As I mentioned earlier, I am fortunate enough to work somewhere all pets are welcome in the office. So the PWC will have a multitude of friends to make and play with during the week. I live just outside of Scottsdale, which is consistently ranked in the top 5 most dog-friendly cities. Almost every store, restaurant & mall is dog-friendly. So we'd have lots of fun at home… Within a 5 mile radius of my apartment alone, there are 3 dog parks. I also live in the valley, so there is a multitude of hiking trails I could take my PWC on. And if the PWC is a couch potato- snuggles in front of the tv sound just as amazing. Really, I am looking for a best friend to take everywhere with me. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest, with my best furry friend by my side.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
With all my dogs, I've made it a priority to establish myself as the alpha of the pack. If a mistake is made, I make sure to sternly correct the dog (verbally, not physically). If it's a recurring mistake- for example housetraining, I would make sure to repeatedly praise and reward the appropriate/correct action.

Discipline:
Mostly verbal. Unless it's an issue like jumping, I will be stern (without being violent) in keeping the dog on the floor and not jumping. I know with corgi's jumping and hurting someone is not a huge concern, however, it is important to me that my dogs have good manners.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me, at the office (in Arizona). The office has a dog park and outdoor workspaces so the dogs can get out and enjoy being outdoors and have the ability to play.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No. But the occurance of the dog being at home alone during the day would be few and far between.

Where would dog eat?
At home, I have my bowls in the kitchen on the tile where if a mess were made it'd be easily cleaned up. At work, I have bowls next to my desk.

Where would dog sleep:
I believe in crate training. I believe that dogs need a "safe space" that is their own. At first, the adopted corgi would sleep in its crate in the living room or my room, depending on the size of the dog. But once I'm confident that the corgi is comfortable in its crate and knows that it has a safe space to sleep (or to just unwind) I would leave the crate unlocked overnight and let it sleep where it pleases. My last foster was very comfortable sleeping on the futon underneath the window in my roommate's room where it could see everything.

Play & exercise:
There are dog parks, galore where I live. At work, there is a large dog park outside, where I would take it multiple times a day. And on the weekends we'd frequent dog parks, and maybe even go on a few hikes (in the wintertime). Ideally, I'd like to get to the dog park once a day on the weekends, and three times a day at work.

Who is this dog for?

Me and my young Jack Russell mutt

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I have liked specifically Pembroke Welsh corgis for years, and I think both my lifestyle and the dog I have now would be a good match for one. My past and current dogs have played well with corgis for years, and I'm very fond of them, myself

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I like to train my dogs to search an other mind games. I like going for walks and snuggling, too, and I've found that games and brain work is helpful in developing any dog's brain.

Vet contact info:

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If it happens right in front of me, I say no or do a some correction.

Discipline:
I think dogs are perceptive to tone of voice, and a strong NO always works. If they are right there when they make a mistake, I'd run thru a short series of simple commands.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
At home and on walks with me and my dog and our lovely dogwalker. Occasional daycare and boarding.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
I have a dogwalker come if I'm at work all day.

Where would dog eat?
I would begin by feeding the same high quality food my other dog received, but if the corgi didn't react well to it, I'd find a better solution, involving my vet, if necessary.

Where would dog sleep:
My dogs have usually admittedly slept on my bed, but I'm fairly flexible to sleeping arrangements based on the comfort and needs of the dog.

Play & exercise:
I got for a walk with my dog int he morning, and again at night, followed by play. My dogwalker is a good friend who enjoys both walks and playing, too.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I recently had to put my Chigi (Chihuahua/Corgi) down. His personality and behavior was definitely more corgi. Outgoing, loyal, loving, great with all animals and people, easy to train, dedicated, cute wiggle, same coat, just an amazing dog. I've always wanted a pure corgi, or close to it. I get the short leg challenge, and the back issues. And accept any and all health issues that come up.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
I love walking. My last dog couldn't go for the long walks I liked, so I'd detour home for shorter walk with him and continue on my way without him. I live in a pet friendly apartment, with a giant yard. Lots of room to play here! I also live very close to the town dog park that has a small dog and large dog area, as well as neighboring towns dog parks within 15 minutes from here. I love doing everything I can with my dog. I've even taken my dog to work with me! I enjoy camping. I myself don't care to swim in the Bay or Lake, but I do like to town sticks out dogs to catch (with supervision of course). Anything we can do together to bond and be each other's companions.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
If you catch the mistake in action, it's ok to correct it. Each mistake is unique in how to handle it, but never is yelling at or hitting acceptable. For example, if they mess in the house…if caught in the action, a stern No followed by immediately outside. Praise good potty outside. Be more timely with trips outside after that for some time to assure no more messes. Always be excited when going potty outside. Happy, good tone of voice, treats, pets. If I notice an accident in the house that I did not catch happen, nothing can be said at that point. They don't know why you'd be saying No. Just take them out and again praise good potty with happy excitement.

Discipline:
Routine is key. Consistency is a must. I'm all about good praise for good behavior. While training a dog, I tend to be more relaxed inside. Show them it's a calm place. Outside we have tons of fun! (Inside can be a fun place too!) I had one dog who was very very stubborn with training in every aspect. Unfortunately the only way I could get through was with strict kennel training. He was in his kennel often, which was so hard for me. He was out for scheduled play, potty, eating, walking, training. After about a week he got the idea, thank God! It was so sad to do it that way, but it worked. I never use a kennel as a weapon though. Always make a kennel a safe, comfortable home for an animal. I've worked with trainers who suggested leaving a lead on a new dog in the house for a month allowing you to quickly correct poor behavior. I've tried this and didn't have great success. Maybe for some dogs it would work, but I've noticed it just scares the dog to firm jerk on the lead. I want to make sure they know they are safe, and have nothing to be afraid of.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me wherever I am. I am a homebody typically speaking but I enjoy solo activities. As mentioned above, I enjoy walking and camping.

House dog

People at home during the day?
No there are not, but I have several people close by available to help me with pets when needed. (And I always keep a hidden key in the event of an emergency.)

Where would dog eat?
I have a small nook (you could say) in the kitchen. It's the perfect spot for dishes. It's in the open, but not too high traffic to bother the dog.

Where would dog sleep:
Hopefully in bed with me! Again, their preference though! I have pet beds all over, if they like the kennel, that will work. If they want to sleep on the couch. They can. The floor? Hard and cold, but if they are comfortable! I also have doggy steps to get up into the bed too!

Play & exercise:
I walk at least 3 miles a day myself. If the dog would like a longer walk like that, if love to have a walking buddy! If they weren't up for such a hike, I have a shorter route to take. If they aren't fond on walking, we can head to the dog park to play or just roam the yard at home. I do live in WI, along the lake, so there are some winter days that's walks just aren't possible though. But we'll make up with some snowba tossing, tug of war or some memory treat training inside.

Description of yard:

I currently do live in an apartment, but am looking for a home to buy. The market is tough right now. I am a dog lover. If it doesn't work to adopt with you, I will most certainly own a dog again soon. With that, for me to purchase a home, it must be a dog friendly environment. ideally a good yard, if not a nice area to walk and hopefully near one of the many dog parks in the area.
I am ok with you calling my landlord, but please don't bother her if I'm not next on the list. Please only contact her if there is great chance of moving forward with an adoption.

Who is this dog for?

Our family. We currently have a 2 1/2 year old corgi (Olive). Her companion, Annie a 14 year old beagle, passed away recently. We would love a second corgi for our home, and to keep Olive company.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love our current corgi Olive, and her energy. She has a stubborn streak, and is very clever. She is so cute we can't stand it.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We live in the country in SE Michigan, on 10 acres. We have 1.5 acres fenced for the dogs to run in . We have mowed trails in the remainder of our property to walk the dogs on when we don't want travel for an extensive walk. We would also bring the dog with us for outdoor event, and for shopping at stores that allow dogs.
We camp a few times a year, and the dogs come with us.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We only correct her for things we see her do. Usually, a firm "No" is all we do.

Discipline:
See above.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
We have a doggy door. The dogs tend to spend a lot of their time in the yard, but always have access to come in. Probably about 50-50 between indoors and outdoors during the day if the weather is nice.

House dog or outside dog?

House dog

People at home during the day?
No. My wife and I both work, and our son is in High School. We would plan a period of two weeks (using vacation time) to have at least one of us home at all times when we first get a new dog. This way, we can supervise the integration of a new dog into our home.

Where would dog eat?
We separate our dogs for meals. This ensures each dog gets the correct amount of food, and reduces potential confrontation. We have two locations in the house where we typically feed each dog.

Where would dog sleep:
We have dog beds in a couple locations in the house, including two in our bedroom. We also have a large crate with a dog bed in it, but none of our dogs seem to want to use it.

Play & exercise:
Our adopted corgi will be a family member and exercise each day. Currently, the neighbor has two dogs also, and they like to run up and down the fence line together, barking excitedly. We usually walk Olive (our corgi) at least once a day for a mile or so.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
We have a 4 foot tall fence made of "horse fence" material. There is about 1 1/2 acres of fenced yard. The fence is quite secure. The beagle was an escape artist. We had to keep the fence up diligently to keep her from getting out.

Who is this dog for?

We are looking for a Corgi as a pet We currently have a 10 year old tri-color male (our 3rd Corgi) and just had a dachshund pass away. Our Corgi has never been without another dog as a companion.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We are on our 3rd Corgi. We have owned Corgis for about 20 years. We love how intelligent they are, how cooperative, easy to train, and their loving companionship. We do not mind tumbleweeds of dog hair in the house.

Corgi time out…sitting quietly next to me. We never hit our dogs, use a squirt gun, shock collar, etc.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
In our house. We have a "dog room" with a heated floor for the winter.

Who is this dog for?

It’s for us! We both grew up surrounded by dogs. We recently got our own place and we need our puppy! For as long as we can remember, we’ve always wanted a corgi!

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We both are in love with corgis! We love how they sploot and how little their legs are. Also how interactive and playful they are. I’ve also read that they are loyal dogs. Which is great because when we add our corgi to our family, we need them to be great with kids in the future. We like the stature and how mature they look when they’re older.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Walk, run, take to dog park, meet other dog friends, car rides, play with toys, train.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would be sure not to freak out and would not do anything to harm the corgi emotionally or physically. But we would put our foot down and train them properly to work towards getting rid of the habit/mistake they made.

Discipline:
Positive reinforcement, praise, treats, toys, training classes, focus on timing, distraction method.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Outside or with me in our home.
