We do have another dog that would need to be introduced to any dog we consider adopting. I want to make sure they will get along before we bring another dog into our home. He is friendly and has gotten along well with most every dog he's met but I'd rather be safe and have a meeting beforehand.

Who is this dog for?

Steve and I love corgis and would love to adopt one who needs a good home. We have an adult male mixed-breed dog, Bojangles, (70 pounds) who gets along very well with other animals including the corgis he has met. We have a large yard and plenty of dog beds waiting for our new family member. Our new family member would be crate trained in our home and would likely come to work with me (Megan) several days a week if possible.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
Corgis are smart and challenging dogs. I have been enjoying the continuing process of training with BoJangles and am excited to work with an intelligent herding breed. I also think they are adorable, obviously but that isn't the main driver behind our desire to adopt.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Regular walks, training activities to learn basic commands and if possible more complicated training, hiking and camping when possible, fetch, relaxing at home, etc. We bring our dogs with us everywhere we can (if appropriate).

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
See answer for Discipline below

Discipline:
distraction & correction,, rewards for correcting bad behavior, grabbing the scruff of the neck to stop a bad behavior while loudly saying no, giving the dog an alternate activity (command or toy) to discourage the bad behavior – honestly it depends on the situation. Our current boy is very food driven so rewards with treats is how we work with him. However, this isn't a great option for corgis due to their size.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me as much as possible, in our home, in our yard supervised, he or she will have a crate in one of our bedrooms for crate training with the goal of graduating to free reign within certain parts of our home (living room/kitchen).

Who is this dog for?

For the two of us! Josephine (me) the daughter and Samantha (my mom).

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I dog sit and dog walk for two families that have Pembrokes. I think their personalities are so funny and their activity levels are perfect. We have always had big dogs but we want our next to be smaller. One that can keep up with the big guys but still is down for a nap on the couch. I have done A LOT of research. Ever since dog sitting for the family with one I have dreamed of having my own.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We love hiking. My sister has two dogs and we currently have one and love to go on hiking trips together. I often go on car rides with my dog to visit friends in Kentucky. We have a lot of play dates with my friends and their dogs. We have a large fenced in yard so daily play time outside is the minimum if we don't do a walk.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I'm not entirely sure what this question is asking but in terms of what I do if Tobey (my current dog) does something like get something out of the trash and chew it up, I am aware that dogs brains do not work the same as ours. I will show Tobey the mess he made and tell him that that was not a good thing.

Discipline:
From the obedience training classes I have brought my other dogs to I have learned that positive reinforcement works the best. Make sure the dog knows he or she is doing a good job and reinforce the good behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me and Tobey. At home. Or on an adventure of some sort.

People at home during the day?
There is a five hour period on Wednesdays that nobody is home. My sister and her husband live down the street and are always home. If needed we could drop the dog off with them if he or she cannot be alone that long.

Where would dog eat?
In the kitchen on separate sides of the room as the other dog, Tobey.

Where would dog sleep:
In my room! I plan to get a new doggy bed for the new pooch. Or if the dog likes to I would love a dog that sleeps in bed with me.

Play & exercise:
We have a HUGE fenced in yard. I take Tobey out to play everyday. We try to go on daily walks. I imagine that Tobey and the new dog would also have a blast playing in the yard together.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Who is this dog for?

Myself

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I’ve adored this breed my whole life and have dreamed of getting one of my own for years. I’ve have friends and family who’ve previously own a corgi. They are playful, smart, and loving. Even though they’re absolutely my first choice in dog breed, it’s also important to me to give a dog in need a home before shopping for a new puppy from a breeder which is why I’d like to rescue.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
There’s a private park across the street from my home and a dog park only a few blocks away. My office is dog friendly, and there are a number of dog friendly restaurants and patios close to me. I am actively outside daily on either a walk or run and I enjoy the many parks and outdoor spaces Minneapolis has to offer.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?
Yes

Willing to house train?
Yes
Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
I’d address the mistake by letting the dog know it was wrong with verbal cues like “no” and my own facial expression. If it is a habitual mistake we would learn to phase it out, if it was an accident then we’ll clean up and move on, those things happen.

Discipline:
Reinforcement of positive behavior comes first to begin early and stay consistent with positive behavior. If a mistake happens I’d do myself to either catch the dog as it happens or address the concern immediately after and never wait for any period of time to ensure there is no confusion for the dog. To discipline I’d address the dog’s health first and if everything is okay and it’s just a mistake, I prefer to redirect the behavior to something positive after a verbal cue like “no”

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
With me at our home or in my office.

Play & exercise:
I take a daily run that my dog would come with on and I’d take him/her for a walk in the evening as well for a second outing. I’d provide lots of interactive toys, train him/her with skills and tricks, socialize with other dogs (behavior and temperament allowing) and spend lots of time playing one on one.

Who is this dog for?

Hi, This Pembroke corgi is for my partner Gael and I. We has a 15 y.o. corgi, Griffin, who passed away this year from D.M. We are ready to open our hearts and home to another corgi.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We love then energy and character of the breed: big dog attitude in a little package, bossy, friendly, happy and full of character.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Long walks, playing in the yard and at dog park, behavioral training and, possibly, agility training.

Aware that Pembrokes are busy, noisy dogs?
Yes

Money for basic care?

Yes

Money for unforeseen medical expenses?

Willing to house train?

Willing to do formal training? Yes

Do you have a veterinarian?

Yes

Vet contact info:
{If yes, please provide contact information including the vet’s name, clinic name, street address, city, state, zip, and phone. Also include the website if there is one.:52}

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We got some good training with our very alpha, headstrong corgi Griffin – I would like to get more specific training. In general, I found praise and distraction to be more effective than getting upset at the dog.

Discipline:
Consistency and training to figure out what the dog "wants" when they are misbehaving and then figuring out how to turn their attention to another goal or direction.

We had success with many specific commands and less success with others ("come" and "heal"). We definitely will get more training to try to avoid bad habits.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
with us in our house or outdoors doing outdoor activities. We spend weeks in the summer at a cottage on a lake with is a wonderful place for pets.

House dog

People at home during the day?
Yes – I work out of the home 100% of the time and am considering retirement this year.

Where would dog eat?
We fed griffin "Blue Diamond" lamb and rice dog food, but would go by the Vet's recommends, what the dog likes and what seems healthiest.

Where would dog sleep:
In our bedroom in a kennel, and / or on a dog bed on the floor – no sleeping on the bed.

Play & exercise:
About an hour a day and more on the weekend.

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

No, I don’t have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Description of yard:

We have a 1/4 acre corner yard in a wooded older suburban neighborhood in Madison, WI. We have many native plants, a gravel courtyard and a small koi pond with goldfish. We have a motion sensor sprayer near the pond if the dog is curious or destructive toward the fish. Griff was only ever interested in drinking mucky pond water, which we highly discouraged, but he didn't have any interest in the fish!

Who is this dog for?

Julie Wojewski but Matt and I will be training/taking care of it together.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
I am interested in corgis because I love active, herding type dogs. Growing up, my family always had German Shepards and I enjoy how active and sweet they are but I am looking for something more compact but with a similar personality. I fostered a corgi for 3 months and fell in love with her intelligence, energy and over all willingness to learn and please (while somehow still being soo stubborn! haha). I also dog sit for an Australian Shepard (who is a little over one years old) and enjoy her friendliness, drive, and energy. I have never owned a dog on my own so I understand it will be different than owning a dog as a family but I am willing (and plan to!) take it to training to gain basic manners.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
Hiking, camping, daily walks and fetch. I would love to get a dog that is well socialized and good around people of all kinds so I can take it on trips with me. I want this dog to actively be a part of my life.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
Positive reinforcement. Redirecting its behavior and making sure it gets the proper amount of exercise. Making sure the dog is in a comfortable and stable situation.

Discipline:
Put it in time out, distract or redirect behavior. Always use firm commands, and be constant in training, so not to confuse the dog or make it think it can get away with things it the owner gets worn down. NEVER be aggressive towards the dog.

People at home during the day?
I work 40 hours a week but Matt works in an office and is able to bring well behaved pets in (its a small office, there is only one dog that is sometimes there currently) so potentially he will be taking the dog in with him occasionally if he/she is the right fit for the office. If not he/she would spend their day while we are at work crated, or just at home free if trusted. We also often have different days of the week off from work so the dog will probably not be left alone for the full 40 hours some weeks. I am able (and very willing) to come home mid day during lunch everyday if necessary.

Where would dog eat?
With a bowl attached to the outside of his/her crate. Or if no crate necessary in the dinning room.

Where would dog sleep:
In my bedroom, probably crated at 1st and if trusted (and once I get to know the dog a little more) out with a bed on the floor.

Play & exercise:
Daily and multiple times, before and after work. I look forward to taking them on hikes, to the dog park and of course daily walks and playtime outside!

How will you exercise your dog?
Both on leash and restrained to the yard

Fenced yard?

Yes, I have a fenced in yard.

Willing to pick up dog waste?
Yes, I will clean up after my dog.

Willing to use a crate?
Tall wooden privacy fence on 3 sides and shorter chainlink fence with gate on one side. Medium to large sized yard.

Who is this dog for?

This corgi would be for the two of us.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
We want to adopt a PWC because we are both familiar with and have been primary caretakers for large dogs but want to adopt a smaller dog in order to more easily be able to take them places. We have heard that corgis are much like larger dogs, just shorter. We love our friend's corgis and would like one of our own. We have done research and are prepared to do training and provide mental stimulation for our dog and will look into agility training.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
We will work on training to keep our dog mentally stimulated, and take it along with us for activities like hiking and camping, as well as regular walks around the neighborhood and visits to local dog parks.

Yes

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this:
We would handle a mistake with firm correction and work on teaching an alternate behavior if necessary.

Discipline:
A firm "no" and steering the dog toward an acceptable behavior.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
Our dog would spend most of its time at our home, but also in the homes of my parents, who are experienced dog owners.

Where would dog eat?
The dog would eat in our home.

Where would dog sleep:
The dog would sleep in our house, either in our bed or its own bed.
