Who is this dog for?

 My parents are looking for a corgi to go with the male 6 yr old corgi they currently have. They live in Eau Claire, WI and do not have a fenced in yard, however they take their corgi for 3-4 walks per day. I am filling out the application as my father is not tech savvy and asked if I would assist in the process. I can get you their info whenever necessary to set up any meet and greets or to get additional information. They are not as interested in mix breeds but might be open if the right dog comes along! Why do you want a Pembroke?
 Hi, we lost our sable pembroke, Griffin, at age 14 years and after 1.5 with Degenerative Myolopathy (using a cart). I love the "big dog in a small package" aspect of Corgis as well as their happy-g-lucky (Happy Dappy) character. I love the energy when they are young, but appreciate their calm as they get older. Mostly, i love how they assume the world was invented to keep Corgis happy, as it should be.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 The Pembroke Welsh Corgi has been my breed for 40 years, though I have had a couple of other wonderful heading breeds. Of the 6 Pems I have owned, one was bred by a friend, 4 have been rescues, and one is a well bred dog. I have previously adopted from the Lakeshore rescue. That dog is Corey, who is now 14 years old. He is the only dog of unknown parentage to ever have earned a VCX from the PWCCA. I love that Pems are quick learners and great partners, but also have a strong sense of self confidence.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I have competed with almost all of my dogs, including the rescues. We do obedience, rally, agility, herding, tracking, and nosework. We also enjoy walks around the neighborhood and at the local parks and arboretum. There is also ball play in the back yard and cuddling on the couch.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If caught in the act, usually a firm "no" is enough. If the infraction happened when I am not present, a correction when it is found, often much later, is not helpful. One just has to look for the behavior to be repeated, or better, avoided.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I have always been drawn to corgis. I have met a good amount of corgis in in my adult life and they just seem like a great fit in my/our life. We like to be active, and having a dog to give us more reasons to go for walks and play outside sounds like a great addition to our lives. They're also typically more of a companion animal which is my greatest desire to adopt a corgi; I have a lot of love to give, and a dog seems like the best outlet for that.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 We have a state park with lots of grass trails up the road from our home that we walk often as well as pet friendly parks in the area. My family also lives on a farm so there are lots of fun things to do there. We would do our best to do some sort of training to keep the dog stimulated, and are firm believes that you can never have enough balls or toys.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		I believe it's best to never show aggression toward any animal, and when mistakes are made it's best to try to remain as calm as possible, and acknowledge the mistake calmly but firmly, likely pointing to the mistake and saying "no".

 discipline should always be a last resort, and the first action should always be to redirect and encourage/praise proper behavior regularly. .
Worst case scenario, isolating the dog from the problem, whether that be removing the dog from the general area, or removing the items from the area.

Where would Pembroke spend the majority of the time:
 We would go for a walk/some outdoor play before we leave for work at 7:30, weather permitting, the dog would be home in the morning, and we both come home for our lunch break so they would be let out 1-2 times mid day, then one of us is home by 3:45 every day. Following that our evenings usually involve a bit a relaxing time then at least a walk around the neighborhood. We are home bodies during the week and rarely do things that would be dog friendly.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 We are a couple who will be retiring in a few years and we have had several dogs along the way. Our last two were Corgis. The first was named Yogi and he was with us for 10 wonderful years. After him we found another one named Louie. Louie was with us for almost 8 years and we were heartbroken when he passed away. That was almost a year ago. We miss having a Corgi with us and are looking for one to share our lives and home with. Our adult kids come to visit occasionally and each has a medium sized dog so any new dog we get will need to do well with other dogs and our barn cats.

 Us. We have experience in caring for dogs like Pomeranians, Chow Chows, and a Chihuahua. We now would like a Corgi companion.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 The decision to adopt a Corgi comes at a time where we have stability in our lives. We are ready to care and nurture for a pet as another family member. We’ve owned enough dogs to understand the commitment involved, and we’re excited to imagine our future with a corgi! We’ve done our research on the breed via corgi articles and YouTube videos. The origins of the breed as a small herding dog really endeared itself to us.

We understand that the breed is energetic and higher maintenance than most, but definitely feel it’s well worth the effort. Even though we don’t have experience with corgis, we feel confident in being able to ask via Facebook or other corgi owners for advice should an issue come up with the breed.
