Who is this dog for?

 My husband and I recently lost our 11 year old corgi, Leopold, to cancer. After adopting him, we feel in love with the breed and would love to welcome another into our family.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 My husband and I adopted a corgi and fell in love with the breed. We love their pint-sized bodies and larger than life personalities. They have an energy and enthusiasm for everything that they do that is infectious. When you see a corgi it is nearly impossible to not smile. They know they are cute and love the attention! We love how, even though they are short, they truly believe they are large dogs and love to call the shots.

We owned our rescue corgi for nearly 10 years and had a positive experience with him, which is why we are looking to add another to our family. Our corgi definitely had a mind of his own, but at the end of the day he simply wanted to make his people happy. Wherever you were he had to be and enjoyed cuddling with his parents in bed and on the couch.


Activities planned with Pembroke:
 Our dogs are part of the family and whenever possible they are included in the activities we do. Our last corgi went on many walks throughout the neighborhood and frequented dog-friendly cafes. He loved both the dog beach, the dog park and going on adventures in the nearby forest preserves. He was a great road trip dog and has gone to visit family in different states and has gone on many camping trips. We plan to do the same activities with our next corgi.

Will handle mistakes Pembroke makes like this: 		If we see the dog make a mistake, we immediately redirect and bring him outside. We typically do not believe in reprimanding a dog for an accident unless we see him/her doing it.

 With our dogs we use a stern voice to discipline accompanied by basic commands.

 My husband and I are both teachers and our gone from 7:30-3:30/4:00 a day. During the week our pets have a dog walker. When were are home, on holidays or breaks our corgi would be with us.

 Our corgi would eat in our home in the kitchen.

 Our corgi would sleep wherever he or she felt most comfortable. Our last corgi liked to sleep near his parents so he slept in the bed or on the couch when we would watc TV. When we were not home, he would often sleep in his dog bed or on the couch.

Play & exercise:
 Our corgi will have the opporuntity to go on morning walks before work with us and in the evenings. During the day she/he will go on a walk with the dog walker. We live near two dog parks so on the weekends or evenings she/he would be brought there for additional play time.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 Last fall (2018), we adopted a 12 yr old Corgi from the Washington County Humane Society named Misty. She passed away suddenly last month, which greatly surprised and saddened us; the vet said it was most likely a blood clot or heart attack. We want to adopt another Corgi since we loved the breed and would love to have another one in our family. We love the size, energy, personality and intelligence of the Corgi breed.

 We took our Corgi, Misty, on daily walks, which mainly consisted of nature walks. We also took her camping, canoeing, fishing and swimming. We played with her daily with various toys; we tried to teach her fetch, but she wasn't interested.

Also played with toys and try to teach how to play fetch; our previous Corgi wasn't interested in playing fetch even though we tried to teach her.

 I brought my girl home seven years ago and that was my first intro to the breed. I love their affection, playfulness, and intelligence. We are involved with the Chicago Corgi Cavalcade so we spend a lot of time around other PWCs and CWCs and they are all smart and loving dogs.

 The pembroke is for myself.

Why do you want a Pembroke?
 I love how corgis look like they are smiling when someone is petting them. I like their ability to comfort others by their cuddly personalities. I had a corgi mix until about 2 weeks ago when he got a blood infection and passed away. Since then, I have been doing a lot of research on the breed and determined that a full pembroke is the breed that is perfect for me and for what I am looking for. I am looking for companionship and something to take care of and since corgis and very loyal and enjoy the companionship too, we would make a good match.

Activities planned with Pembroke:
 I am a triathlete who loves to go on long walks but i don't like to walk by myself so I would walk the corgi by the marina and the local parks.
I would also take the dog to the lake during the summer seasons and sit at collectivo by the lake and watch all of the cyclists go by.
I would also spend my nights relaxing with my corgi with some inside toys and television.

 I am a triathlete so i am very active. I have the time to take the corgi on morning and evening walks with my work schedule and i will provide it with plenty of toys for independent play inside the apartment. I often go to my parents home which has a 2 acre (partially fenced in) yard that my corgi could run and play in and get extra attention and love from my family.
